played a three club comp yesterday, decided against carrying a putter and that was my first mistake. 4 1/2 hours later walked off with a grand total of 8 stableford points, 2 out and 6 in, but due to withdrawals and dq's I didn't finish last.

lesson learned, next year take a putter

so what's our lowest return in a club competiton? not counting NR's or DQ's.

I take it you are talking about stableford points?

Don't play many, but i have shot 100 in a low handicap comp at Nairn. 175 enties and i was 75th, over 50 nrs that day.

Was RO though;)

Yes.. good idea. ;)

8 points takes some doing. 8 per nine is about the worst I can remember.

Normally for the 3 clubs comps we have - 2 clubs plus the putter

Lowest return I have seen in a stableford is 3

No idea what mine is

At 3 clubs I wouldn't carry one either! I can putt reasonably with a wedge.

Personally I find the cross over to be once I have 4 clubs - by 5 it becomes a no brainer ie 4 + putter.

An early memory - before I actually started playing - was a win by Bob Charles in a 1 Club comp! He used a Putter!

Not even a three club comp

Packed my slice and Arrived on this island 4 years ago, played lie aux cerf and hit three off the tee on more than half the holes, lost a dozen balls easy

7 points!

Absolutely mental but that course has to be learnt (played there 2 weeks ago for 38 points)

Amazed nobody has asked, what clubs did you choose.

Gross;)

a great decision by the green staff, 40mph winds forecast so they double cut and ironed all the greens. it was like putting on marble. any putt downwind would not stop and many just kept putting off the green.

I only ask because it reminded me of an apocryphal tale at Bogside. This particular three ball came back in to the clubhouse, with much celebration because one of the party had broken 100 for the first time. An onlooker rather mistakenly congratulated him on his first sub 100 gross score, only to be told " No, that was my nett score"

best bit about it was, the group of guys i play with all put a £1 in and the lowest score gets the cash, all the others NR'd and i took the money:rofl:

Had 17 points around Royal Lytham a few weeks ago. Was really looking forward to it, had a great start (+2 after 5 and 10 points) then the rain came, no wet glove, clubs slipping all over the place and many lost balls later was very glad to reach the bar. I can't remember a worse total though I have had 8 points on the first 9 at Lancaster (in a betterball!!) and 6 points on the back 9 at Southerness (after 18 out).....really must learn to plain in the rain.......

17 pts foursomes stableford around Royal Birkdale - 7pts on front nine told us we could only improve back nine - we did...

Embarrassingly we were the teams 'trump card' but me and my mate got merrily blootered the night before when staying in the Scarisbrick Hotel in Southport - chatting up the bar staff and waitresses and getting nowhere of course. Ah - memories...:)
