I have taken the bullet and ordered myself a Ping G10 7.5 degree with low launching shaft. I'm hoping this will keep my drives low and further than my current ping 9.5 which balloons on me even when teed down and only going 250 and spinning back on occasion!. Anyone on here use low lofted drivers and experienced improved driving or is it much harder to control??

If you spin it that much, you probably need to lessen the angle of attack. I would get a trackman session to figure out where that spin is coming from.

where is the ball in relation to your set up, i used to suffer with this even with a g2 8*, turned out i was hitting far to much from teh middle of the stance...

I have an 8.5 degree 910D3 with a low launch shaft that on occasion if I feel im hitting it a bit high or its a windy day I will knock down to 7.75 degrees. That said if im swing well in summer on a calm day Ill happily crank it upo to 9.25 degrees

Cant say that changing it .75 degree is making the dispersion change, if I ever change it down from 9.25 to 7.75 I do find it a little hard to get it square with so little loft on it (that just be how it sits to my eye though)

I play the ball pretty much just inside left foot. I do hit it pretty straight most of the time but in relation to my swing speed and connection I just get high to ballooning ball flight nearly every shot and its even worse in the wind. I've since been told by everyone I play with that I need less loft. My irons and 3 wood are absolutely fine although I never tee them up. I also read somewhere that the G10's are not only high launch but the lofts are actually a degree or two such as 9.5 being 10.5 and 7.5 being closer to 9.

I would not think it would be harder to hit on good shots but with less loft you have less forgiveness I would think?!

Loft = forgiveness no? in a pretty direct manner.

My driver is 8.5 degrees but is a Ping so pretty easy to hit with a normal trajectory.

I have had 7.5 degree drivers before myself. The last one was a Bang O Matic 460 and it was not easy to hit. Unforgiving and easy to hook or slice. I would not have another with such a steep face and find 8.5 is about right for me.

Ping is notorious for making drivers which actually have a lot more loft than it says on the head. That 7.5 degree driver may really be a 9 degree.

Och Ethan, it's a macho thing to have in the bag though ;)

Never played anything lower than 10° in a driver. Why make life harder than it needs to be

Generally preferred shot is a soft draw sometime a high fade if not at my best. I knew it had been said about the actual ping lofts. Just hoping the G10 7.5 is as forgiving as the 9 degree loft for my swing. Shaft wise I use stiff and I think it's mid launching.

i recommend going for a fitting because a better shaft can be all the difference.

i currently use a 7.5* titleist 905r fitted with a grafalloy blue stiff shaft and i balloon it very high when i strike it well.sometimes i can keep it down but 80% of the time it goes way too high and has hardly any roll out at all.

because of this i went for a fitting and i used a 8.5* driver fitted with a slightly stiffer shaft than the one fitted to my 905r and i was managing to hit it lower with a more penetrating flight and more run out.it was still too high though so a stiffer shaft is needed and this will help with a lower ball flight, more carry and more run out.

The trouble is, if you get a set up that hits it lower, what do you do if you want to hit it high?

I played with a pro last year on a windy day and every driver he hit went miles high. Down wind, it was huge but against the wind I was passed him. His face was a picture  The point is I learned to hit high and low with one club. Spooky.

I know its an iron but the principles are the same.

Wull.......Im Really surprised you Balloon a Stiff Flex Grafalloy Blue in the 905r.
Im good mates with a club fitter, and he always told me that the Titleists long hosel made most shafts play almost 1/2 a flex stronger, and I always found the Grafalloy Blue a really good performing shaft, with a nice flight.
You must Really 'go at it'......;)
They did make another version, Grafalloy Blue Tour shaft, which was much weaker and nowhere near as good
The Prolaunch Red is a decent Low Launch shaft though

Club came through today from golfbidder. In better nick than described in fact looking down can hardly tell the difference between the 9 and the 7.5 pings together although the shaft seems a touch longer with the 7.5 as I'm 6'4 this may help? The shaft is prolaunch red and looking forward to having a hit at the range weather permitting.

Have you been to a pro or a club fitter and been told this. It sounds like the shaft isn't right and you are generating way too much spin. I have to be honest and say I don't think the lack of loft is going to be the answer

Nah neither just very experience low handicap golfers. Guess it's not going to be as valid than coming from a pro or fitter. However I just get the feeling that its the launch angle as I'm still getting good distance with the 9 degree but feel the 7.5 is going to give me more roll than what I'm getting now. Time will tell I suppose.
