I know its cold but im really enjoying winter golf.Of course its winter rules which help, but the things i like are, where you hit your ball you dont get that horrible bounce, when you hit the green it generalling stops where it lands, the putts are slower which i like, and of course its quiet so no slow play, ideal for improving your game during winter. What do you like about winter golf?

What do you like about winter golf?

Not alot.
Cold, wet, muddy, 4 layers.
OR
Warm, sun on your back, cool drink half way round, shorts and t-shirt, light weight summer shoes.
If you dont want crowds and slow play, play in the evenings

Winter golf is great fun, you get out of it what you put in, my course plays longer due to the tee's being moved slightly further back. I play in the winter league and we have an eclectic amongst ourselves which keeps you competative and the banter is priceless.
Have played every winter since i started playing and wouldn't give it up.

Just back from 18 holes. Only a 2 jersey morning in Fife. Mind you it's amazing how much quicker play is in the winter. Funny how you never seen anybody lining up their putts Camillo Villegas style in this weather !

I like winter golf our course is still in excellent condition throughout the winter and we play off different tees so its like a totally different golf course and if its freezing cold so be it wrap up warm, problem solved!!!

What do you like about winter golf?

Not a lot.. :D

I prefer the tee position on the last 4 holes.
I like the mats (other than those pointing right, as I then aim left and slice/pull the hell out of it).
I like the crisp air and the preferred lies.

The rest is a disaster, mud, rain, leaves (took me 10 minutes to find my ball yesterday 2 yards long and right on the 3rd) (p.s.there was no-one behind!)
The bunkers are hopeless, the greens are dodgy, the paths are death-traps! My clubs were caked in mud and took 20 minutes to clean etc.etc.

I like playing all year, but it does get wearing.

Currently chucking just 7 or 8 clubs in a carry bag.

there's a lot i really like about winter golf, there's also stuff i could really do without... the worst culprit is winter greens!

played at the weekend in a heavy frost and that meant 18 holes of winter greens. rock hard, lumpy, non-true and the ball bounced about left to right, up and down... you could have a putt 100% going towards the hole and it'd change course at the last milli-second.

I'm not complaining, as it was either that or xmas shopping with the better half, but frosty winter greens make me unhappy!

I'm afraid I'm with the majority and don't like winter golf. I'll play the monthly medal and stableford but thats it really and would rather spend a couple of hours working on something constructive like distance control with wedges, putting or my short game than slogging through soggy rough and fairways just because.

Hi,
I enjoy playing as much links golf as possiable during the winter the courses are in great nick its always windy there any way so no change and the green fees are reduced.
Mike

Loving it is probably a bit strong but would rather be out on the links than at the range or even worse (just) shopping. Going to winter temps at our club is very rare and if they all go to temps then the course is pretty much unplayable because of the rain anyway.

Waterproof golf shoes: £120
Gore Tex Rain Suit: £300
Thermal Base Layer: £40
Thermal Wind shirt: £70
Winter Mitts: £30
Cosy bobble hat: £20

Never going out to play in the cold..........priceless!!

I played in thick fog on Saturday morning. I really enjoyed myself. It forced you to keep the ball on the short stuff else you'd never find it so even though I only used my driver twice I scored about the same as I would have normally.

I have been really enjoying the winter golf, we've played at least 9 holes (usually 18) every week for the past few months, and as the cold and rain has taken hold my enjoyment hasn't wavered. The course is looking great considering, on Sunday there were about 4 temp tees, all the greens were open, and considering we'd just had 2 weeks of almost solid rain that's great. The green keepers have cleared up just about every leaf that has fallen and im playing my best golf of the year. No complaints from me.

NOTHING...we must be mad to trudge through a mud laden field, freezing cold and wet dreaming of one day being good enough to be playing along side the pro's who bugger off south for the winter and continue to play in 70-80 degree heat in short sleeves.Any one who enjoys winter golf in this country is tapped. IMO. :(

I can't even watch the golf on the telly, as it just bears no relation to the weather / course condition I am having to hack about in. I get annoyed (jealous) just watching it.
