Went out to Sherfield to do some holes last night but when I reached for my putter I couldnt find it. Gutted but I must have left it on the course somewhere.

Too late to ask as most people behind had gone home as it was almost dark. I checked in the clubhouse bar afterwards and left my details in case it shows up.

Went back up there today and even went out in a buggy looking for it. No sign and so far no one handed it back.:(

Sorry to hear that. I know, its a pain in the backside.

I did the same with a 6I once but I found it when I went back to have a look. I re-traced my steps and realised that I took it with me into the trees when I went to spend a penny.

Not the case here though with my putter. BTW the putter is an old Wilson , not worth a lot to someone but I've had it for years.

Amazing that people find stuff on the course & don't hand it in. I lost a rangefinder like that and it's plain theft, although some people on this forum, unbelievably, disputed that. A few weeks ago I found a Skycaddy on the course. The owner hadn't realised he'd lost it and I could easily have kept it, he would have had no idea where, or possibly when, he'd lost it. But honest people just don't do this.

Agree. I found a putter head cover on the course and just handed it in. The person who had lost it was most grateful and that was a putter head cover!

I had my Scotty Cameron putter head cover stolen off my trolley while I was in the Pro Shop and the trolley was outside. Thankfully they left the putter (not Scotty fans?) and it is now disguised in an old Mizuno cover!

speak to the greens staff, they are most likely to find it.

Sometimes when found a member sticks it in his bag and forgets to hand it in, only noticing when he plays again, so keep trying it might turn up within a week

I've handed in quite a few clubs that I found on the course.

I would keep checking because it is possible that someone intends to hand it in but has just forgotten they picked it up (a round is a long time) or had to rush off afterwards without going into the clubhouse.

I found a Vokey SM5 (in a bunker of all places - how could you fail to notice that!) and popped it into my bag but completely forgot about it while having a chat with a friend after the round in the car park and drove off. Handed it in a week later when I next played.

There's some hope yet!

I would be very grateful if somebody handed something of mine in, so I do the same.

A few weeks back, my Open Championship putter cover from Royal Lytham had dropped off. Fortunately a guy in the group behind picked it up and gave it me as we passed on the following hole! Top bloke!

Similar situation at my club last week - I got to the tee box and found a putter left there. The only strange thing was that is was the same make and model as mine. After I got over the confusion of how my putter that I had just used had got to the next tee before us, I put in the bag and returned to the club house (and lived with the PP comments re penalty strokes for now having 15 clubs!)

Simon

PS - Serious Q: if I had done this in pucker comp I would have 15 clubs in bag - is it ok to have extra clubs and declare them out of play, collecting a stray club being only one way this could occur?

Of course it is!

When the I15 was first out I found a 6 iron on the course and handed it in behind the bar. Bartender was surprised someone would hand it in, gave me a snickers and 7Up as a reward!

A little off topic but a girl friend of mine lost her wedding ring a few weeks ago in a field her and her son were playing in. It was a huge rock! many £££. Her old man was livid but a week later someone handed it in!! WOW!!

A few years ago I found a ring with a nice stone in it in the car park at work. I handed it and heard nothing for a few days. I then got a call from HR telling me the owner had been found and asked if I minded the woman whose ring it was getting in touch with me to say thanks.

Turns out her mom had died a few weeks previously and that was her wedding ring. She was choking on tears thanking me she was so grateful I handed it in.

I handed a pipe in last week, the pro said, I know exactly who's that is he'll be very pleased!

Left my dunlop wedge on the course, spent the rest of the round thinking about what new a glorious wedges I could get to replace it

Of course that got handed in and returned to me!

Last week, my son and I found a bank debit card, unsigned(!!!!) on the course we play. Everytime we passed other golfers we asked their first names and finally got a match, then asked second name and it was the owner. Strangely enough, he didn't seem particularly grateful and laughed off my advice that he sign it. I couldn't help thinking that we should have treated ourselves in the pro shop instead of giving it back!(That's a joke by the way.)
