I marked a card for a member last week (Supplementary) and she put it in the correct box in the clubhouse.

It appears to have gone astray! There was a big competition the next day so I assume it's amongst those cards somewhere and the office are checking.

What if it isn't found? This was her 3rd card to keep her "c" status and the course is now out of action for qualifiers as the huge bunker project is under way.

I know what she scored, she knows what she scored (it will be +0.1) but what if the card never materialises?

Once it has been returned it is the committee's responsibility. If it can be reconstructed the committee should accept it.

If the card has been handed in and can’t be found then the committee can enter the scores if they are known - had the same scenario.

Perfect - thanks very much. She signed the book beforehand and I'm sure about the score. We marked as Stableford so I know the total (27) and can just about recall hole-by-hole - or can they just enter as +9?

Write out a duplicate and have it ready, just in case. The earlier you do it the better, although ultimately any card where you have agreed and signed for the scores should be accepted.

If the book was filled in before hand and the card not found (or submitted) I think a 0.1 would be added once the book was checked.

Amanda was clear that the card had been submitted by putting it in the correct box. It would not be appropriate to make any adjustment to the member's handicap as a result of the card then going astray.

Should it arise that the player and marker are unable to replicate the card, I for one would accept that a qualifying score had been returned and make sure the player's 'c' was retained.

At my club the "rules" regarding supplementary scores state that someone who signs the book to signal their intention to play a supplementary card and who does not return the card would have their hcp increased by 0.1.

I do understand that this thread is about a lost card but thought it worth sharing what happens at my club.

I didn't mean to suggest otherwise if a player has signed in for a supplementary and has simply not submitted the card. Your club is quite right to record a 0.1 increase - it's the CONGU rule [21.10]. In this case, I was seeing a difference in that the player has submitted a score but her card has subsequently gone astray. It might not matter about the 0.1 increase as that we are told was happening anyway, but to me it would be important that she retained her competition status. She has submitted 3 qualifying scores and should be disadvantaged by the club's error in mislaying a card.

Interesting- unfortunately my book is back up the club.

So all you have to do is register your intention to get a .1 and or upgrade your HC to C without even returning a card. Seems like something that can be abused. Fortunately I have never had someone not return a card.

Yes it can, but no more than signing in and deliberately returning a series of poor cards. In practice its very easy to spot as well!

It's easy enough to remind a member of what is required - even after the first non-return.
