Stableford today, didnt start great but really picked it up with 6 net birdies in a spell of 8 holes, after 14 holes I had 31 points well on course for a nice cut. On the 15th 2 decent shots left me a 6 iron to the par 5 hit it way right but a good chip got me a 6, so 33 after 15. nice drive on 16 left a 7 iron to the 16th green, managed somehow to drag it left thorugh trees into a ditch, drop in trees and blobbed the hole, good drive on par 5 17th, then a too good 7 iron meant I had to take a free drop off a path, 6 iron to green, squirted way right into trees finished with a 7 for 1 point.
Par 3 18th, 6 iron off tee, squirted way right again, overhit pitch out of bounds over the green for another blob. So only finished with 34 points.
Last year 5,6 and 7 irons were the strongest part of my game but this season I have no idea what is going to happen when I take one out of the bag its very frustrating. Booked a lesson next week and I really hope I can sort it out.

You've come a long way in a short space of time so you have to accept that there will be off days. However if you are really lacking confidence either hit the range or get a lesson although I reckon it was just a bad finish to the round and nothing too serious

Sadly, it isnt just today, they have been poor for the last few weeks, my driving is good, I am hitting fairway woods pretty well, and I am pretty decent fom inside 100 yds but 100-150 has been a lottery recently.

Why don't you book a lesson Louise.Could be a simple fault that could be rectified quickly, a few drills and before you know you'll be flushing those irons again.

From reading the post I'd have said the thoughts of the possible cut creeping in to your game rather than the shot at hand

Happens to me too, I start giving thoughts to the possible final total and as a result however small it is its brain power that should be thinking about the next shot

I'd rather not know my running points tally (& one of my regular FC's knows this so delights in telling me every hole) and its contributed to losing three times in last 2 months after leading on 16th tee

Only 2 points off a regulation 36. I wouldn't let it worry you, or the itch will become an open sore. If you focus too much on something that has only cost you a few points you'll make it worse. Relax, take the rough with the smooth and it will get better.
