Afternoon all

Treat myself to some new irons last month. Went from the TM R11s to Nike Vapor Speed irons.

These are more GI irons and are thicker...so my question....is it common for me to have lost some distance with the switchover? I prefer the flight of my new irons, being higher than the R11s, but I feel I'm having to club up for each shot compared to the R11s

TM R11's nice clubs. When I used these on holiday, I found I was using a club less for each shot, than I normally would. I reckon they are cranked up a bit, so a wedge is like a 9 iron etc etc. Probably where the distance has gone might be worth checking the lofts.

Never thought to look into shaft weight etc.

I did check length and from what I could gather they're both the same.

It may be that I thought I was hitting the ball longer than I actually was with the R11s....or possibly the conditions at the moment.

TM are notorious on the loft front. I read a big irons review in National Club Golfer this weekend and that was pretty much the opening comment when it came to reviewing the TM offering. I think it has become an in joke in golf irons circles. It was not raised when reviewing any other iron mfr. In reality you are probably playing the same club/loft, it is just the number on the bottom of the club that is different.

Do you like the Nikes overall? If so then it is just a mental adjustment you need to make.

it's not the lofts as the loft specs vapor speed to tm r11's 4i to 9i are identical - & the nike speeds pw, aw, etc are 1º stronger than the r11's

what make and weight of shafts were in the r11's, and in the vapor speeds?

Yeah I love them, wouldn't want to go back, it was more just out of curiosity tbh

As long as it is not eating you up and you like the Nikes then that is all that matters. They do look lovely.

A mate of mine upgraded from some Titleist AP1's to AP2's. He has lost around 15 yds per iron and it is chewing him up. His ego makes him want to play the AP2's as he is sees that as a players club but the distance loss is messing with him and getting him down. I suspect he will be trading in shortly as it is in his head now, luckily for him money is not restricting him.

Looks like 90g in the r11s and 120g in the nikes

This is just going off what I'm reading online as I'm currently at work so can't get access to my irons to know for sure.

for sure that weight differential will play into chs so ball speed and distance

what make of shaft could have also play into on how much higher the flight is

the weight and shaft bend profile could possibly play into presenting little ways dynamic loft through the strike so more 'up' & less 'forward'

here's a bunch of general ideas how shaft make and type can play into launch angle

Yeah it's not chewing me up like it is your mate. I think I'll be fine once I get used to it and start playing for the distance gap.

But I haven't got a true read of distance yet mainly due to the condition of the course, getting next to no run, especially with iron shots.
