I am thinking of changing grip.
Have played for 5 years with an interlocking grip, but have recently been told by a few
people that my grip changes as I hit the ball into a ultra strong grip with my right hand.
My left is fine as I can see 2 knuckles.
So I have been tinkering with the overlapping grip.
It feels comfortable enough, and it seems to help me hold the club with three digits, and
more in the fingers.
Because this is very new to me I mostly go back to the interlocking during the round.
Has anyone else gone this way?
How long did it take to master?
How does it effect the setup, does it produce more of a draw or fade?
Does it mean I need thicker grips?
Every bit of info would be appreciated as I think this is the way I want to go,thx

no idea on the finer points of your post, but i went from interlock to varndon about 18 months ago and have not looked back. i did occasionaly revert back on the course by accident, but its second nature now. I reckon it only took about 2-4 weeks to feel good.

I went from interlock to overlap around 4 years ago as I felf it allowed me to realease the club better.
I feel like im striking the ball much cleaner now than before but that could also be to do with swing changes. I occasionally revert back to locking but its more a confidence thing to make sure im striking best with overlap. I also tried using both together lock for driver lap for the rest and then locking for wedges just. but to be fair the overlap is better all round for me.
its taking 4 years to get happy, I was a good ball striker before so if I had a bad round id look at all things inc grip but im happy and comfortable for now. if you do it over the winter and practice with it you'll be fine by march.

I changed from interlocking to vardon at the end of last season, gave me more control and hit it slightly further.

had a go with interlocking couple of weeks ago to just see how it went...

Vardon is much better imo

I did have an overlapping grip, but changed to interlocking and now it's second nature, I'm told by my teacher that my grip is good, so that being so, means one less thing to worry about.

Imagine how good Tiger Woods and Jack Nicklaus could have been if they didn't hold the club incorrectly.

I didn't say the interlocking grip was wrong..... just that Pokerjoke does it incorrectly.

Having seen his grip... I would know.

Actually Tiger had a similar issue with his interlocking grip getting 'too deep'.

Besides that.... welcome to the forum

Welcome,interesting name.
Nice sarcastic first post:D

Thanks for all the love boys, sarcasm is my forte. The name is a small tribute to my pet cat who sits loyally at my side a la Butch Harmon (at a safe distance of course, he's a stickler to Health and Safety) any time I hit balls in the green next my house.

I change between both from time to time and don't find it makes the slightest difference nor difficult to adjust to. In fact, not so long ago I sliced my finger on a stanley knife and wasn't able to use interlocking for more than about 5 holes so I switched mid round with no issues.

I changed from a (weird) basebal grip, with the left thumb resting on top of the fingers of my right hand, to a Vardon about 20yrs ago. Lesson on the morning, played a scratch league match in the afternoon - no bother.

Baseball grip for me - grip the club anyway you want that will give you the ball flight you want.
