Afternoon all, new poster here but long time browser!

I've been playing now for just over a year now but I'm having serious trouble with weight transfer at the top of the back swing.

Can anybody suggest any drills or mind techniques to stop me thinking about smacking the cover of the ball? At the range I can just about get it right, but as soon as I hit the course the mind goes gaga.

I've been taking lessons, but it's the same old story. The pro has me shifting, but I can't make it ingrained.

Any help greatly appreciated!!

What, to your back foot or through to your front foot?

Through to my front foot.

I'm leaving everything behind and either coming right over the top for an ugly slice or pushing everything out right

I have trouble keeping my head still while transferring weight. I end up swaying a lot over the ball, which doesn't do anything for consistent ball striking, let me tell you!

Don't think of hitting the ball, just swing towards your target.

Also, in the past I've found it useful to feel the weight shifting onto the inside of my right foot during the backswing and then to the inside of my left foot towards impact.

I'm sure GM ran a few tips in the 2009 equipment review where there was a drill where you set up a certain way, lift your left foot and move it to the left. I have it somewhere.

Have you tried googling "step through drill golf"...I think this is similar.

Transferring your weight is a whole lot easier if you have a good good backswing. If you're dropping the club behind you, straightening your right leg or lifting your left heal you may find that you are in the wrong place to shift your weight through the ball.

The step through drill is a good one but if you find you are having to work hard to shift your weight you may very well have another fault that is preventing you from shifting properly.

I've said it before

Try the Baseball drill.

Stick 'Baseball drill Leadbetter' into youtube and you'll get that nice Mr Leadbetter telling you how to do it.

I had a similar problem with comng over the top, pro sed get your back to the target on the way back, more hip turn and its almost impossible to come over the top. I also felt like this made getting back through the ball alot easier, but with a smoother swing.
