Hi...first post!

I have just started playing golf again having played a bit as a teenager (I am now 28). I have decided golf is now going to be "my game" and have got the bug!

Would like to hear from anyone around the Lincoln area who might fancy a game.

Standard wise, today I was 32 over par on a decent course, I'd say I'd be a 28 handicapper.

Thanks,

Jonathan (aka LoyalRed!)

No not yet. Just looking around at the clubs close to me and having a look. Live close to the A46, on south-west of the city. Carholme is the closest I think but don't know much about it, or any others current for that matter!

Newark GC is quite nice and probably only 20 minutes from you if you're right by the A46. Carholme isn't too bad. Best bet is to play a few and decide which you like best within your budget.

Or you could join Martin Moor over by Woodhall Spa and get Bob to give you lessons ;) (see post above)

If you can travel 20 miles I thoroughly recommend Gainsborough Golf Club.
James (JustOne) and I played there the week before last and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, and although our round was a complimentary one, courtesy of Ping, the published green fees look very reasonable.
They have two courses there, "Karsten Lakes" and "Thonock Park".
We played the Lakes course which was a very good test of golf, but not really ideal for a high handicapper due to quite a bit of water coming into play and fairly long carries on a few occasions.
We didn't play the Thonock Park course but apparantly this is a bit easier, not so long, but still quite a good test of golf.
We are hoping to go back and play there again someday, maybe for the week-end when we can get to play the course that we missed out on, just to see what it's like.
The people were very friendly there, and as I say, the green fees look very, very good value for money.

Thanks for the advice guys. I've had a look at a few clubs now and I think Canwick Park is where I'll end up. I wasn't that impressed with Carholme, and Sleaford/Gainsborough are a bit further than I want to travel really.

Always up for a game though anywhere of course!

Has anyone played Canwick Park?

Yeah I did spot that on my visit. I'm playing there on Sunday before I make my decision.

Slight problem is it's not like there are too many other options...
Laughterton - just plain weird - was glad to escape alive
Carholme - didn't get "the feeling"
Blankney - really nice but a bit too far out
Torksey - mega bucks..."don't wear denim!"

Haven't been to Sleaford but again probably a little far away...maybe worth a visit. Same with Newark.

I played at Canwick at the weekend...have to say I was really impressed. In fact I played with a member of Blankney...he said "if you'd have told me you wanted to join here before today I'd have said you were mad, but having now plaed here I've totally changed my mind". He was really impressed with it.
