Looking for a decent practice net/cage for the garden.

Anyone got recommendations? - sturdy, quite fancy a cage (the three sided version!) to stop animals/stray humans getting in the way...don't want to spend the earth but at the same time want something that'll last. Thankyou:clap:

We have a Pro Advanced net as we needed something we could easily put up and down. The garden is not very big, and this time of year the pool is out and the net is stored away.

No that cheap - however it is very well made and really does pop up and down as easily and quickly as it shows. It's not ideal for lofted (9i+) clubs, but we use a small chipping net inside to practice chipping in to.

I had one much like the Pro-advanced.

Worked well for a year but the netting didn't last sufficiently over Winter and balls started going through in the second year!

Mate built a proper cage between a shed and fence and is really happy with it. A couple of days hard graft, but looks pretty good apparently. Member MGL even had a hand in its constriction I believe! So may be available for 'consultancy'!

Thanks guys - it'll be a permanent fixture so quite like the idea of something constructed. But the Argos one looks a good price if you want something to move about...

Never seen the point in these as you can't see the flight of the ball. It may feel ok off the clubface but in reality it could be slicing or hooking badly.

Only good for warming up and surely you do that at the course just before playing?

There are now quite a few gadgets that can 'analyse' swings from swinging into nets. Video filming and subsequent comparison is also a possibility. So not just warm-up devices.

I bought a run-of-the-mill Argos one for about £30 last summer. I left it out all winter, and it has developed small holes in the netting, but nothing that can't be repaired by some string. The same model is all over eBay I believe, but it was definitely £30 well spent, as it has done my handicap wonders.

Golf Nets Direct have some good looking models, but the models under £200 are very small, which put me off.

The only downside to nets are that you can't track the ball flight. But I use mine to get my eye in. Driver & woods are a range only option for me, as it is very easy to develop bad habits. Irons & wedges are fine, just watch that you don't go over the top :D

I went to net world sports. I got a 3m x 3m x 3m cage net. They gave good service and the net is very good quality. Any net without a baffle is going to have problems. This is a net that sits inside the cage and in front of the back net and takes all the impact. It should be made of stronger material and relatively cheap to replace. The cage was quite complicated to put up but they talked me through it on the phone. The mat is important and shouldn't be overlooked and can be quite expensive. I went for a true strike. Expensive but well worth it. I too used to think that cage nets had limited use, but I have to say it has improved my golf and definately my ball striking. However, I do use it indoors in conjunction with an old flight monitor, a cheapo simulator and an ES12 distance monitor. If you need any info please don't hesitate to get in touch. Good luck.

I have in fact also gone for one from Net World Sports and, oh dear,:eek:oo: you've put such a good idea into my head for winter....I was thinking about the cage outdoors but inside would be so good for winter...I've got a good quality mat. When I was little my Dad converted our garage into a practice area with a massive net and a mirror. I had completely forgotten the hours and hours we spent there in the evenings. Perfect! Just have to convince the rest of the family that we need to lose a room and put a blooming great net in it...:eek:oo:

I had an office in a large old building with high ceilings and the bloke opposite had a full net in he's office,by the sound of it he spent more time whacking balls than working!

Not a fan of nets. No real way of telling the flight of the ball and we all know you can put a good strike on it but it goes off line. You wont see that in a net. That is why I never rely on hitting in a net without a reliable monitor (not an AG cranked up model) and prefer to test on a proper range if I want to hit clubs or practice my game
