Hey there, looking to finally upgrade my TM R9 driver.

I have about £200 to spend in american golf (vouchers). Willing to go a bit more if needed.

I definately plan on trying out the TM R1 and maybe the Nike Covert (im a sucker for advertising).
Any ideas for what else i should be looking at? Being a lefty i need to go with plenty of ideas as theyll prob only have about half of them in stock....

Cheers

Cobra ZL Encore. Best driver I have used in many a year. Forgiving and still quite long.
Altrnatively any of the Ping G drivers get good press.

Not sure about the AMP as I couldnt get on with it as it felt and looked poor.

Mizuno MP650 if you are a decent ball striker is an awesome long dog, just not forgiving at all.

Definitely have a go with everything they have available to you.

But despite the above comment about the Amp I'd be a massive advocate for the Amp Cell its not a driver I'd really thought about until I tried everything but when I hit it I was sold.

its really horses for courses what we like you may not and vice versa. Happy hunting though:thup:

Absoluetly it is, I personally found the Amp to be poor, reason being the the stiff Fuel shaft felt a bit bambooey (if that's even a term). You obviously loved it but may not like the Encore...

Read up on the new adams drivers. They have a slot in them.

I'd quite like to try an Adams Driver, no one sells them up here anyway.

I have the Adams Speedline Super S driver and bought the 3W at weekend - I have no complaints about either, lightweight, fantastic shaft in the Matrix HD and good reliable distance. Whats quite important is the forgiveness - i've hit some right stinkers on the range (due to swing/swing/swing) and after looking at the impact marks have wondered how on earth they've gone 220 and only 30yrds right.

They cost a little but I won't be thinking about a change anytime soon. The driver I got from the states and saved £50 versus UK prices and that included shipping and customs. The wait killed me though!

I own a Nike Covert driver. It looks great, feels great and sound great. Be aware though that it will launch very low so if you're testing it out it's worth jacking up the loft - I play mine at 11.5.

Also I'd go for the performance head rather than the tour head, I felt it a lot more forgiving and easier to hit solidly.

I was about to post 'Try them all', then saw the word 'Lefty' which, as you state, will mean a limited range!

Try as many as you can though. And make sure you take your existing Driver in to 'calibrate' the results.

Right guys cheers for the advice. Went at lunch and hit the Covert, G25, R1 and Amp Cell. Literally their whole left handed stock!!!

After a few warm up whacks with the R9 to set the marker i moved onto the first choice

Covert
Wasnt sure about the cavity but looked great at address. Hit the ball quite well with it but was maybe only a few yards longer than my R9 with slightly higher dispersion. Was coming out suprisingly low maybe something to do with what Andr3w said.

G25
Loved the look from the get go. Looked about 600cc even tho its only 460. Couldnt fault one shot with it. Was coming out high and carrying further than the R9 and Covert were going with roll. Dispersion was ridiculous. 7 yards over about 10 shots.

R1
Was the bookies favourite going in. Looked good felt good and solid and was hitting it very well. Was launching lower than the G25 despite it setup with a higher than standard loft. Dispersion was low, not 7 yards low but low enough. Slightly shorter than the G25

Amp Cell
Again loved the look. I know most people hate the look of it but im not one of them. All went wrong after that. Dispersion was all over the place. Actually put one in water off to the left in the simulator. Woeful start to finish. Horses for courses i know but just couldnt get a good feel to it.

So that was it rounded down to the R1 and the G25. Had a few extra hits with each and really learned nothing more. Amazingly the swing speed and ball speed for both were identical. G25 was giving way higher launch and alot more carry. With roll they were pretty similar.

Time to talk $$ with them. Managed to get £30 tradein for my very very well used R9. Selling online isnt really an option as a lefty.

After tradein they could do the G25 for £210 and the R1 for £170.
Amazed they would let the R1 go for that and was very close to pulling the trigger.
Worked them a bit harder on the G25 and got another £10 off.
Happened to lose my headcover for my RBZ 3 wood at the weekend so said id go with the G25 if they through in a replacement aswell and the deal was done.

Proud owner of a new Ping G25 driver :)

It's the feel good story of the year ;)

As a fellow lefty I would say you can get lucky selling your stuff on line as whilst there is a much smaller market, there's also much less to chose from. I sold a set of lefty MX 100s on line a couple of years ago on fleabay and got more than the right handed sets were going for at the time.

Enjoy the G25, I've got a Nike Pervert VR S driver and it's a nice club. The adjustability sold it to me in the end. And also Mark Crossfield likes them, cause I'm shallow like that.
