I haven't picked up a golf club in over a month (not even the Range) now due to weekends being spent painting and decorating our newly purchased house. Unlikely to play in September either until we've finished and moved in completely.
What are people's longest non-playing periods (for any reason) and when they played for the 1st time after did they play well with less pressure/more freedom etc due to not concerned about beating last weeks/round score?

Had a break of just over a year from 04-05 due to a badly busted ankle. Broke it in April and didn't play till May 05.Didn't feel that it was stong enough to play until well into the Winter and then decided to wait until the weather improved.
Had a couple of range sessions in the run up to the first round back and slipped into it fairly easily.
The short game was poor but it soon came back, my driving - once the strongest part of my game - went to rack and ruin and has never been the same since.

Playing 4 years.... Of the 4 years i ruptured my right Achilles tendon 2 weeks after i joined our club... That put me out of the game for close to 5 months...... Last year i ruptured my left Achilles Tendon in February and spent March,April,May,June, and July Not hitting a ball...... So iv got from 21 H/C to an 11 in roughly 24-25 months of actual Playing.:mmm:

Didnt play for 5 years due to back problems. Had an op just under 2 years ago and started playing again 18 months ago. Still dont play as much as id like but at least im playing

Since taking up the game in 2010, the longest lay off I've had is 8 weeks.

That was last year due to ligament and nerve damage caused by hitting our of an un repaired divot.

3 years. Due to never being a golfer in the first place really. Thing is, when I picked up the clubs again in June this year the swing hadn't changed much and the driver still had a slice (forum fade). I'd think that was a similar thing for many...same traits coupled with rustiness?

No pressure on rounds because scores matter not at the moment and that I think has been the beauty for me, I've seen improvement in my play and enjoyed every single step that I've walked. Might not be the same feeling when I eventually join a Club and play my first comp, mind!

12 years. Didn't play between ages of 18 & 30. Started out when I was around 14 years old but lost interest then around 18 and was playing other sports. Back playing last 4 years.

4 months (so far) this year. Knee/leg went at the end of April, but with painkillers and a golf buggy I'm going to give it go again this month, fingers crossed.:fore:

I am sitting about 8 weeks with a couple of rounds of a scratch cup in that. I had zero motivation to play but it is slowly coming back and I might get out for a run tomorrow or Tuesday. Then will put in some practice over the next week and see how I go. I tend to go through a period of this every 12-18 months :(

I had a break of a couple of years when I found out about beer and women. Still drinking beer and back playing golf... the women weren't that entertaining... don't tell Mrs Hobbit I said that.

Haven't played in 7 years, waiting for my irons to arrive (Tuesday hopefully) then back to the range for a couple of weeks.

I played twice when I was 18...... and started again 18 months ago at 55.

Really wish I hadn't left it so long.
