Ok, bit of a brag post this.

Just got back from my Sunday round and hit a my first 300 yarder. According to skycaddie. 324 yards in fact :D

Admitidily it was downhill

From an elevated tee

With the wind behind me

But I still hit it and and it's made my day :)

Got myself a nice par.

It was a 421 yard par 4. Chipped on a 2 putted.

I don't usually try to hit the cover off the ball. Didn't this time either. Just seemed to really connect with it.

Its more timing than effort I reckon.

I bombed one 280 yesterday and felt effortless.

PB is 349 in last septembers medal, I got called a bandit big time as It left me a wedge into a Par5 which finished 2ft away and I tapped in the eagle. Not bad for a 27h/cap!

Shame it is once in a blue moon but then thats the beauty of golf, even on the crappest of days you will play a hole better than even tiger could and thats what keeps us coming back!

Have in the past overshot 300 yard greens before in summer. This was when I was using my Yonnex cyberstar Nanospeed driver, which has just gone back in the bag this week, as having not played any golf in 2 months have just played my first round (almost) in 2009. Missed out a couple of holes as my playing partner had to be elsewhere. Ground conditions were not the best & cost me a lot of shots over the round, including one well struck ball that disapeared completely, costing me a second penalty drop off the tee.

Still walked off with 30 points over 16 holes. Though probably helped by a few 3 & 4 point holes. Was 2 inches left of having my first ace, judging by the hefty pitchmark on one green. On top of that I managed to save par after leaking my second shot into the 18th to the right & rolling into jaques custau land (water). Took the drop. & hit bind over a ridge & straight into the cup.

Gods of Golf, was I impressed with my first round of 2009, even though it was far from perfect for me.

whoo hoo...!

All said & done I was hitting it well & straight, though no-where near as far as I know I can. I was more than happy with distances gained this week.

Got a late christmas present yesterday in a satnav, so will be able to find out what my driving distances are over the next months to come.

I'm with you on that Jon. I'm off 24 at the moment and the round was pretty average.

I look at it a similar way. As long as when I've finished my round I can look back and there's some good shots and a few good holes in there I'm happy.

Gives you a sense of optimism that there's a good golfer in there somewhere :)

We have 6 par 4's on our course which measure between 336 yards and 392 yards and I've driven them all at some point, usually all when the fairways were running or downwind. The best was the 14th (381 yards) which I've driven once with a bit of a gale behind me and sank a 20 footer for eagle.

On a good day it's 260 though. I know that because the fence at our range is exactly 260 away and I can just reach it with a goody. Madandra was flying it half way up the fence last he played there and I know Atticus would probably fly if when he catches one. Beasts!

250 and I'm doing well! Dont know why just cant seem to get one to carry 220.

I know I have a slow swing speed at 85mph but even if I speed it up and nail it, it never goes much further!

Still its not about lentgh guys, :D :D ;)

Nice one westy,
A couple of months ago I hit a drive on our first par 5, but off a winter tee which is about 40 yds forward - just enough to get my drive over the brow of the hill, about 290 yds. Ball rolled all the way down (frozen solid!) and ended up about 80 yds short!! All for winter golf me.... :D

Sadly I know I can't hit it miles although the draw was working well yesterday. Unfortunately the fairways were saturated so one bounce and no roll. HTL has a new Wilson Spine in his bag and he unleashed a couple around the 260 mark in the wet conditions so I reckon they would have been up near 300 come the summer.

Just remember John, It's not how long, it's how many !

On my home parkland course I'm happy with 230-240. Down the coast on a hard running links I may well get another 25-30 on top of that. Trouble with links is that the bounce and roll can often take you into trouble. Cunning so and so's these old time course designers.

Indeed the spine is working at the moment, but im still sticking with the 3 wood unless I really need it on those big par 4`s and savage par 5`s.

Youda Maan Westy!!

These downhill holes really ask to be given stick don't they?

Wycombe Heights has a 344 yarder. Big slope downhill.Once hit the green witha 4 wood - downwind but still with a 4 wood.
"pulls Bulldog pose"

And runs away.............

Nice going mate, I've never hit one that far myself although I have just tilted over the 300 yard mark once or twice.

That said despite a fast swing speed which is definitely 95-100 mph + with the driver I only average about 220 carry + whatever role I get (not much usually- I must buy a fitted driver which will hopefully give a better smash factor and roll!), and even then I am not overly consistent in hitting fairways so end up carrying it 220 yards of which 30 yards travelled 90 degrees right. :(

hello everyone i actually think i've got the smallest drive, only started in oct 08 and all i've ever known is wind rain frost and ice. i'm in the prime-ish of my life and cant get further than 185yds
