Working away for a few more weeks but actually looking forward to dusting the clubs off soon.

I know some have gone away for periods then come back but how did you find returning

was it a mare or better than expected?

I work away for a month at a time so no golf, when I come home my first week at the range (2/3 times) is truly shocking, after that the old habits start up and I'm back to where I'm comfortable at.

I've just returned after 8.5 yrs off, to say i was a tad rusty is an under statement , and playing once a month will not help that much but hey, i'm enjoying being back out, unless it snows tonight ,i'll be out in the gales in the morning :)

In the last 2 years I've had 2 spells of up to 4 months away from the game. Couple of range sessions usually got some semblance of a swing back, but the short game takes a long time to recover...:(

I didnt play for about 6 months a few years back. A couple of rounds gets everything going again but i found / still find that chipping and putting are the last parts to return fully.

I had 3 years off once. I turned up and shot 4 under my handicap first time out. I figure if I took 10 years out, I could turn pro.

longest lay off i've had has been a couple of months, due to bad weather 3 pr 4 years ago. Had my first game in 4 weeks today and that wasn't too bad despite the 40MPH wind. 4 birdies only two bogies the rest pars.

Missed three months during the summer of 2005 after an operation, played like a complete huddie for the last few weeks of the season.

Still not back playing in my current situation, ten months and counting ;)

2 under par gross in 40mph wind- legend!

I recently returned from a 3 week non-golfing holiday and scored 35 points first time back out, which was rather better than my recent average for Winter golf! Hit the ball really nicely, which was probably because I wasn't expecting too much.

Started playing in 1988 but probably missed most of the 1990's due to work. Spent most of it away from home on ships or training courses.

Packed in in 1994 due to an arthritic back condition. I was off 8 at the time. Didn't hit a ball for nearly 20 years. Started playing again 18 months ago, my swing is not a thing of beauty and I can't hit it very far at all, thank goodness for the advance in club technology. Manage to play off 11 reasonably consistently.

Played in early november in a comp at our place. Didnt pick up the clubs until I went for a membership enquiry round at Ellesborough just before christmas.

I had 0 points after 6 holes but was weirdly enjoying the course. I finally got some golf going and came back with 16 points on the back 9.

I have not played since and have my new membership starts tomorrow morning, I have thrown my name down for a comp so we'll see how it goes. Course was closed today, so if the frost comes in it may spare my blushes.

Ooh you aren't filling me full of confidence - Ive been sidelined since the end of September due to a Shoulder Op and to be fair I've not really even felt like picking a club up due to the pain and stiffness and the physio - its just now start to ease a little and the consultant said I can try swinging a club but not to try too hard! I think I'll wait til the better weather. The annoying thing was on my last round i played the our back nine in 6 pars birdie Eagle birdie! It might be a while before i find that form again !

I always seem to play better when I haven't had a game for a while.
Don't know if I'm just keener to get out and do well, or whether the break has made me forget all my bad swing faults that I had "grooved in"

I had a couple of breaks - one of them an ankle - and played little golf between 2001 and 2005.
I was off low 8's when I stopped and only played the odd time but fore restarting properly.
Handicap shifted up to 13 but within a few months was back to 9 or 10.

You've either got it or you ain't Steve!!!

A couple of years when I partied thro' uni. Still young enough at the time for it not to take too long to return to decent form. 18 months off during a divorce, nearly 30 years ago, didn't make much difference. A few months off following a serious RTA, and the h'cap went well south but 9yrs later its still painful to play. Recent winters have seen me take a month or two off without any noticeable difference.

Returned this year after around 15 years! Biggest case of the shanks ever. Tried to sort it myself but had to enlist the help of a pro in the end. No handicap as yet as I plan to join a club in April. I've put a lot of hours and balls in over the winter, joined a nice little par 29 nine hole course with a range to improve things further. I average around 35, with a best of 31 ( level par after 8... 6 on the last!!!!)In answer to your question, truly awful to be honest!
