Played with a couple on Sat, very long, and straight, but waiting time on the tee and fairway so they could hit their shots was doing my head in, don't mind in comps, but just playing in a roll up seemed to me a waste of time, didn't want to say anything as they were new members and wanted them to enjoy it, does it bother you or not ?

What did you want them to do? Hit a shorter club and not use the driver

What was you going to say? I'm sorry but you hit your driver too far and I'm not prepared to wait for the fairway to clear so please lay up with a 7 iron?

It bothers me. Can't say it's messed up my round though....just makes it slower in a comp, as you say....

Hang on am I reading this right? People get annoyed because they have to wait for the fairway to clear because someone hits the ball further than they do

WOW!!!

Makes me sick, them hitting it 40 yards past me for a 7 iron to the green when I'm driver fairway, should be banned!!:D
Nah it's a joy to watch, certainly makes the game easier

wouldn't be to bad, I max out about 230, only once did one of them score lower than me on a par 5, don't care how far people hit it, never bothered me getting out hit, if they can do it consistantly fair enough, but waiting for ages and them spraying the 2nd shots all over the course is a bit different

Played in the medal at the weekend and Im not the shortest but the lad I played with gives it a serious rip. Meant we waited on every tee (even after changing the order so he always went last and me 2nd). Am playing with him again tomorrow, if we have to wait for him again on any tee Im gonna ask him to hit 5 iron instead of driver and see how he reacts lol

You said they where long and straight and you had to wait on the tee and fairway... I'm still very confused as what you expected these guys to do? If there 2nd shots where sprayed and they would have been closer than you to the green then what's the point in them hitting a short club off the tee then having an even harder, longer 2nd shot to the green with more room for error

if these blokes hit 5 irons they would still out hit me, be quicker, and would prob shoot lower !!!!

only my opinion for a quicker game in a roll up that's all ! !, not having a go at them, they were good off the tee, not so good off the fairway that's all,

Are you saying you want them not to go for the green from the fairway and to lay up ?

LOL you have given me a headache Macca :whoo:

This is the thing with golf, everyone plays there own game and if they hit there driver long and straight then you can't expect them to change there game so unfortunately having to wait for the fairway to clear is part and parcel.

Can't believe the OP. Long and wayward and you "might" have an issue, having to hunt on every hole but long and straight is what we're all after isn't it. Even in a roll up, it is much better etiquette to the groups in front to give them that extra time to get out of reach rather than these guys blasting into the back of them all the time, especially if the course was busy and there was nowhere to go. If these guys are newbies I'd be embracing these talented players and getting them involved in club matches but also making them feel welcome, not having someone close to simmering over just because he has to wait.
