Looking for somewhere to play this month. I'm visting a mate in The Smoke and we'll be playing some golf. I don't particularly enjoy playing his home club and so would love to be able to suggest trying somewhere else - something in the £20-£35 range, in or around north/west London which will be in fairly decent conditon this time of the year and be a reasonable test.

All suggestions gratefully received!

If you want a cheap round then try Whitewebbs, I've not played there in a year, but when i used to travel to London for work I played it quite a bit. It was always in good condition and costs about £15 per round ! Address is Beggars Hollow, Clay Hill, Enfield, Middlesex, EN2 9JN.

North Middlesex GC and Finchley GC are great tracks too but a little more expensive

The best public courses in north/ west London are Little Hay nr Hemel Hempstead and Wycombe Heights - both about £25 at the weekend. Also Stockley Park nr Heathrow is good, about £35 though gets really busy at the weekend. Berkhamsted used to take guests after 12pm on a Saturday and is far better than any of the ones I've mentioned. Think it's about £35. No bunkers and interesting road hole at the end!

If you can get on, definitely try and play Berkhamsted, lovely course, my uncle was pro there until he recently retired (for about 25yrs). Really challenging course, and whilst there are no bunkers, there are various natural hazards. Not sure of their guest policy but well worth a phone call.
