Why does it take at least 7 or 8 atempts to login on Internet Explorer and why am I unable to login at all with firefox yesterday and today. You enter user and password then it either goes blank in password box or forwards to page saying website cannot be displayed.

Very frustrating.

Have you changed your bookmark, or are you still using the same one as before the change. Next time it looks like it hasn't logged you on, click "today's posts" and see if you are actually logged on. Then delete your old bookmark and save the new one. Oh, and don't forget to tick "keep me signed in".
Hope this helps

Thanks again bluewolf for offering helpfull advice (virtual gold star) - the fix suggsted seems to have doen the trick with everyone so far. Birdieman can you confirm it does the job for you

Your bookmark is the icon you click to take you to your favourite pages. So it's your favourites list. Now that you have logged in, add the gm forum to your favourites list, then delete the old "favourite".

It was never in favourites, I don't use that, seems simpler to just type golf monthly, I don't like being 'signed in' all teh time either, that's when Trojan Horses, worms an all kinds of e-nasties get into your computer isn't it?

I think theyre a bit more sophisticated than that to be honest. Most nasties come from e mail attachments and opening files on certain types of file sharing websites. Staying logged into GM shouldnt pose a problem really. With regards to your original problem, im a bit confused. Are you typing golf monthly into your browser and allowing it to take you straight to the forum, without typing any of the www. or the .co.uk details? Or are you using google etc to go to the website? If you are allowing your browser to "auto fill" the address when you type it into the address box, then it will be using your history and may be causing the problem. Try using google to find the site and see if that helps. Plus, stay logged in. You wont get infected by staying logged in.

Stay logged in simply sets a switch that says you don't want to have to log in each visit. Unless you use public computers ie library or Internet cafe.

I just go to google, type golf monthly in browser window, dont do anything with URL bar, click on GM golf forum thn enter user and passord but again it is very fickle, just took 5 attempts to sign in to GM forum in IE just now, Firefox wont let me sign in at all.

None of the above addresses that I dont think. Is Bluewolfs way the only way to get IT hassle free forum participation?
