Just found out today i have a corporate freebie at this place next month

Is it as good as it is made our to be?

I know there are rumors that the joining fee is phenomenally high. However is it a quality course?

Never played it myself, but a couple of guys i know have a few times and say its about as good as it gets for a parkland course in this country;)

It's rubbish....it's parkland ;)

Enjoy! Supposed to be a lovely golfing experience

I have played it and found it to be something of an anti-climax.

Fabulous scenery and setting for sure but I felt the course to be quite forgettable. It was in very good condition though.

All in all, a bit like the Buckinghamshire really but set in a nicer location.

It might make my inland top 10 but probably not.... A shame because I really wanted to love it.

Cheers all

I'm really looking forward to it. I have not played any UK course that has a chance of making the top 100 list. I think the best courses i have played in the UK are maybe Brocket hall and (perhaps) the Mere in Cheshire.

I'm at the Open on the Thursday and playing Loch Lomond on the Friday, so have a cracking few days lined up.

To be honest i am just glad to get back of the border for a few days. I dont get up very often any more to visit family, let alone important things like getting drunk and playing golf

Played it twice and loved it, service second to none and the only golf club I've played where you got you beer in a tankard

and the first pint served in the changing room whilst watching TV!

it's a quality experience but, as Snelly eloquently put it, the majority of the holes are forgettable

I loved it, take in the scenery, ignore the midges and enjoy the whisky...but not too much or else you tee off on the 1st not knowing where you are!

It's old school, it's not about individual holes, it's about the entire experience.

The caddies are great, and if you get a guy named Andy, ask him if he made it to Vegas!

I know a couple of guys, a father and son, who have a life membership there ............................ and they fly in from America to play it!
That's how good it is.
My dad also played there a couple of times and said that if he thought there was a course like that in heaven, he'd commit suicide.
He passed away a few years back, I hope he's playing it again!

Slime.

I think we had 4 or 5 pints in the leather chairs in the changing room! That was a first! Very nice course and experience - back 9 much better than the front, where 3 and 5 are the standout holes. Hard to know where I would place it in the rankings but certainly not as high as it is - but would still love another chance to try it out. Can't fathom how it still survives as a club - it was in bankruptcy and the process of being bought by the members when I was there - hence how we got a game. But the running costs must be astronomical - they spent something like 8 million on a spar/treatment place in one of the estate buildings in the circa 600 acres of grounds - we checked it out and were the only people there. This will never make a penny as business and current members must be paying a shed load more than the circa £3,500/yr that I heard it used to cost the circa 300 or 400 members.
