Partly inspired by posts saying they've joined a club and have no regular p.p's
and the fact that there are many members on here who have never met but are local to each other.

So the idea is to somehow come up with a way of letting people know who you are, where you play and that your looking for a game, perhaps a mini league could be developed , home / away type thing.

I think the members map is a little outdated, and the arrange a game threads vanish quickly without replies, plus it doesn't seem right sending a total stranger a p.m saying

" hi, i noticed your local , fancy playing around with me " That's probably a different forum altogether

So, how to implement this idea?

All i can think of at this moment is something in your signature stating your interest, perhaps a sticky somewhere ( if it takes off ) to show viewers that there are golfers nearby and may encourage people to join the forum on that basis.

I know there are half a dozen forumers near me , depends whether my course is up to their standard :D

So over to the collective for some inspiration..

In Germany there is a privately organized Matchplay cup. Mini-Leagues of four players (located as close as possible to each other, maximum in a 50 km radius) are formed, so everyone plays three matches (players make their own arranement as to where and when exactly, greenfees are divided equally between them) and they enter their scores into an online-system. The winner of each league qualifies for a final event (individual Stableford) held at a golf resort some time in the fall. It was free to enter last year, but many players signed up but never actually played, so the organizer introduced a 25 € entrance fee this year. The winner of each mini-league wins 100 €, covering most of his (or her, it is open to both genders) expenses for travelling to the final. I did not play in it last year, but from what I read in forums etc, the players who participated really enjoyed it, so I did sign up this year.

Dear Jay of Sleaford

Down here in the central south area, there are quite a few of us that get together for games every now and again. Don't be shy about approaching someone for a game, the VERY worst that can happen is a 2 word reply and to be honest, I really don't think that is likely to happen. Everyone I've played with or hosted has been great (at least to my face :o ) so if you know of people in your area then go for it :)

regards

What course do you play at?

I'm always open to playing against others in and around Cambridge.

If anyone wants to play at Cambridge Lakes over this year let me know, it only takes 2 hours for 18 holes on a normal round.

It's right near my house so it's eatery for me with a new baby in the house.

Happy to host anyone in the area or passing by or if someone wants to make a 4ball somewhere or play in an open etc etc

Why dont you do an order of merit, like we do in the NW?

I can give you some pointers if you like,as we've done two different formats, but basically, we got about 25 players together, and you play matches over a 6 monthe period and have a finals day. It has worked very well for 3 years now, in the main.

Happy to host / play with anyone interested in the Bromley / Orpington / Croydon area. Although the Add is having a bit of work at the moment

Am based at Arcot Hall, Cramlington, just north of Newcastle and would be happy to host anyone there, or play anyone in the NE at their place.

I live in Welling and would be keen to meet up for a game somewhere. I'm not a member anywhere as I enjoy nomadic golf at the moment but that will change within the next 12 months as I want to find a decent club and Addington is on my list to play and maybe join.

It's a good track mate, having lots of new teeboxes added at the moment so a few temp tee's in place. Happy to get you guest rates. PM me if you fancy a round
