How do you think folk will vote where you live.

Labour seem to be dead in the water everywhere.
Liberals on the up in England we are told.
Plaid Cymru on the move in Wales.
SPN finally look like gaining power of the big Scottish cities.

I suppose Remain supporters will need to check the weather to see if they are allowed to vote?

turn outs to break record lows?

plenty of people will want to oppose the govt so dont vote tory, cant vote labour as corbyn making them unvoteable (is that even a word?), do the lib dems still exist?, UKIP have achieved their aim why vote for them, what independents are worth backing?

upshot? stay at home and not bother

no doubt the scots will be out voting en masse for the scottish version of ukip so they can have another go at getting the vote to go their way!

Where I am we actually have some big local issues. The county council is encouraging and allowing house building on every spare bit of land. No matter how many objections there are they keep ignoring them. This is a chance to bite them.

I'm expecting this to be a genuine local election in my neck of the woods, not an indictment of national issues.

We are having the same problem in N Devon and it was due solely because the local authorities failed to complete their development plans a few years ago as per planning legislation. End result is that even if they turn down planning, on appeal with central Government the developer will win so the original problem may have been caused by people who are no longer elected officials.

Apart from Corbyns labour supporters, struggling to see why anyone would or will want to vote for Labour. Fortunately our local councillor is an Independant and does a good job.

What if your local Labour council are doing a good job? Are you suggesting we should ignore local issues?
A lot of people vote differently to how they would in a GE

Oh, we had that plan in place, we even had a local referendum to approve it. Passed by a long way. Since then the council have gone against the plan on four occasions including building on green belt, changing land designations, agreeing to 3,000 new houses in the next two years instead of 1,800-2,000 over the next twenty years and the daddy of them all, agreeing to a McDonalds to be built next to a new primary school. That goes against the plan, local objections and gov't guidance.

According to the council at the last planning meeting the plan is not law, just guidelines. A bit like the pirate code according to Jack Sparrow! Basically, don't worry about not having the plan in place. It is not worth the paper it is written on. Northumberland county council are the guilty party if you want to Google the unpleasant details.

Unfortunately living in Mansfield, Labour have had there chance for many years both at local council and MP level and quite frankly not achieved anything. It is a desolate dump of a town going backwards. There is no way that the Torys will get in but independents have got a strong foothold. Ironically it is Labour putting up barriers that to an extent hold the independents back. Our local councillor works very hard at local level. I will be voting for the man and not the party.

It is odd you you should say that re Northumberland.when we were there last December, we had not been there for a couple of years and the housing estates that been built was just amazing. Someone is making a few quid up there me finks

Tashy you are not kidding. You will even notice the difference if you came this year compared to last. The thinking behind it, educated guess, is that for every new house built someone will be living there and paying council tax. When govt are cutting back what councils receive this is their best way of increasing income. Basically we have a free for all up here with no application being refused, no matter how outlandish or unpopular.

The strange thing is no one can work out where the people are coming from who are buying the houses, assuming they are being sold of course, they may be standing empty. We have no immigration influx up here, no new industries.

I'm currently jumping through hoops trying to register at my new address so I can vote but god only knows who I'll vote for.

Everything is so polarised around independence here that it's impossible for me to vote for an snp or green candidate because that will be spun as support for Indy. I have never voted Tory and am reluctant to start now, lib dems are still on the naughty step and they're not coming off until they get a decent leader and labour are a shambles....

Add to that Edinburgh council are the worst in the country and it's inconceivable that I'll vote for an existing councillor.

Not leaving many options is it?

Any independents?

Local elections here are never a true reflection of what people are thinking. Too many of us (myself included) will vote tactically to keep one crowd or the other from gaining overall power. There are far too many local councils being run along party lines rather than actually doing the job they are elected to do and that is manage the local authority and provide services for the electorate. My local council must have had more council leaders in the past decade than I care to think about. Infighting in the leading party has led to one going after only 5 weeks in the position. Too many petty squables rather than getting on with the job in hand.

Apathy will be the winner this May with a very low turnout actually voting.

I've a feeling that the LibDems may do well where I live. Waverley was very strongly Remain and a lot of folks are p'd off with Brexit and the Tories for their incompetence in having and running the referendum. On top of that my MP - a certain Mr Hunt - is not doing to great in folks minds in Health - and the LibDems sued to be very strong in the constituency. And though they were growing I'm thinking that the UKIP in their current malaise may be a busted flush. Labour? Well...Labour...in South West Surrey?

We also have a shambles of a two centre redevelopment scheme that is being bulldozed through by the Conservative Council - much to the anger of a lot of locals. Add to that 'secret deals' by the Conservative Surrey County Council over council tax...

All a bit of a mess.

If there is genuinely no one you can bring yourself to vote for then vote and spoil the paper. I did that at the last election. It registers your discontent and that you could at least be bothered to vote.
