Looks like Labour are still on a downward spiral across the UK other than very traditional strongholds, Plaid Cymru are closing in on those majorities in Wales by significant amounts and I can see them being the leading Welsh party in a couple of years!

Labour must realise they haven't got a hells chance of anything whilst Corbyn is at the helm, no doubt they'll spin it in some way and present some kind of positive angle but the nett result is Labour are not gaining anything which is surprising when all you hear about is how the dreaded and naughty Conservatives are attacking this, that and the other and how poorer off we'll all be with dodgy Dave at the helm, so, as labour get bashed in Scotland and the Conservatives look to become the 2nd party up there, PC are getting ever closer to Labour in Wales and, IMO, will overtake them shortly, not huge changes across England but Labour had an unrealistic ambition to gain councils and seats but they haven't really achieved anything, so that has to be a failing for Labour with all things considered.

So what's the future for Corbyn, and will his leadership get challenged?

For me 'local' elections should be all about the folk standing to represent the electorate not about 'party politics'....

Great news therefore, that a person representing a residents group has won over the rosettes in one area...
There's hope for us yet!

I don't think labour's problems in Scotland have much, if anything, to do with corbyn. They've just been completely inept and overwhelmed by nationalism.

You must be looking at different results if you think Plaid did well. They have failed to take advantage in the way the SNP have.

Corbyn will not be there for the next general election. The question is whether he goes shortly or next year. The new leader needs at least 2 yrs to make their mark.

That is the most incredibly depressing story of the day. How on earth he is able to take public office again?

Agreed. I heard the name and thought it must have been a coincidence until I saw the pictures.

Really did think we had seen the back of him.

We also only had crime commissioner.... it'll be a damn Tory again, it always is around my neck of the woods.

Only election we had was for the Crime Commissioner.....
Bet the Poling stations were overwhelmed....

Yup same in our neck of the woods.

Funny thing is next door neighbour has got married again Apparently and changed her name. Which somehow on the electoral register has Changed Missis T's name instead. Not sure what to call her now. Anyway on with the story.

if there is one Tory who I had a possible bit of respect for was Nigel Lawson who was on Question time last night and for a politician I thought he spoke in a language that 22 handicappers understand. he said Labour is in a diabolical mess and needs to sort itself out pronto, because a strong opposition will create a strong Government. IT was also said that Corbyn has a massively strong support of Labour members but Joe Public do not want to support him or his close knit homies.
Mr Lawson was quite Blunt when he said that people outside of these shores ( USA and France ) want us to stay in Europe because it is good for them.
Labour need to pull there finger out, strange comment last night. a woman was slagging off Tony Blair re Iraq and Nigel Lawson of all people said yes but he won three elections on the spin for Labour and that won't happen again if Labour continue down this route.

All we had was Crime Commissioner here as well. Personally I think they're a waste of money, and policing isn't something that should be a politcal subject ala USA. As we also had absolutely nothing from any candidates at all, we both spoilt our paper.

Whilst driving home this afternoon I was listening to Radio Gloucester who were giving out the votes for the local elections. I was astounded by the number of spoiled papers it was in the thousands for each vote. Seems like the voting procedure was too complex for many people.

I would say anyone who takes the time and effort to go to a polling station obviously isn't fazed by a ballot paper. The deliberate spoiling of a paper is an expression in itself.

Dont think it was that. There have been suggestions that the ballot papers had many choices and were quite complicated in the order of selection. They were not a simple 'Select A, B or C' The new Police Commissioner Elect made a statement later that he would take the case up with the Electoral Commission to try and prevent it happening in future. I dont think thousands would have turned up purposely make invalid votes.
