Wee I suppose if you are US Open champ you have to use the 3 wood to chip with, presumably because you are not skilful enough to play a lob wedge ...

Whereas if it was the average forummer who do have that skill, they would have got their 60+ wedges out

'cos he didn't believe it possible to leave a makeable putt that way (same as using a putter). design a course that way and that's what people have to do - not the players fault.

I actually thought phils effort using the lob wedge on the green was awful! the greens should have been reasonably soft due to the rain. he should have used the bounce of the club. instead he took a divot. I couldn't believe my eyes tbh.

I played that shot on Friday night in a bounce game with LB and thepodgester. 60deg, used the bounce and got it reasonably close.
