Lloyds bank Overdraft. New Changes:
We are removing the Monthly Overdraft Management Fee of £6 from our Islamic Account, Islamic Student Account, and Islamic Graduate Account. So if you use an unplanned overdraft on these accounts there wont be any charges.

Allah forgives bad money management. Jeebus will charge you!

Sounds like a good account if you constantly go over your limit.

Lloyds were quite forward-thinking when they launched this line of products.

For those who don't know, Sharia law forbids earning or paying interest.

I dont think you were allowed to go overdrawn or in debt if you were a Muslim ? Or have i heard wrong ?

I think you're right Phil. However, they launched an "Islamic Mortgage" product which managed to get round the rules...

Im guessing the mortgage will mean they arent classified as being in debt ?

We have the 'Laws of England' to govern us here not Sharia Law. Do Muslim countries have Bank Accounts that use English Law for Christians.

I believe Saudi do have English Banks as such that follow the English Law

I dont see its a big deal to have certain accounts for certain faiths to allow them to follow their own laws.

And would anything I or anyone else said make you consider a different view. I think not!

All depends on what that view is - im guessing you posted the thread expecting differing views but not sure exactly what your view is ? Im sure you have one ?

I find Lloyds banks policy wrong and divisive. Just as i would if they had bank accounts and charges that only applied to Christians, Jews, or any other religion come to that.

No problems with that - cheers

So how do religions get around their laws ?

Create their own banks as such in this country ? Bank abroad ? Or have to forget their laws and follow the laws already set out in this country ?

They need to integrate into the country they have decided to be their home and obey the laws of that country. You cannot expect to import your own laws.

Understand that and i believe they do follow civil laws etc but they also have religious laws ?

Do we expect them to break those laws set out by their religion or they have to leave ?

They arent asking us to follow their religious laws but to be able to follow their own

Religion should not make or set Laws, thats the Job of our elected representatives in Government.

Interest is a return on investment. Do Muslim owned businesses not make a return on investment?

The main point I object to is the fact that Lloyds Bank will charge me if I create an unarranged overdraft but not someone with an Islamist account.

I dont know about Muslim Business or how they work things -

Religion does make certain laws for the people to follow - its up to the people if they decide to follow them or not

But surely we must allow all religions the chance to follow their laws where practically applicable and where it doesnt conflict with our own civil laws ?
