Those of you with lithium batteries for your trolleys, do you charge them continually when not in use, or do you unplug it when the light goes green?

until recently i had a lead acid that stayed on a trickle charge. the manual mentions charging it until the light goes green, but the pro at my club where i bought it said that the hire trolleys they have are left on charge all the time.

I charge mine until it's green - motocaddy

My mate has a Powekaddy and he has a trickle charger

Think depends on what sort of charger you have

I have a Litepower lithium & phoned the manufacturer about this because it was unclear in the manual & the website FAQs. They told me the charger should be switched off and disconnected within a couple of hours of being fully charged. Not critical, but done too often if is possible the battery &/or charger could be damaged. I've accidentally left mine on for 3 days without any apparent harm but I try to do as advised.

I play once a week (twice in summer) and leave mine connected up 24/7 with no obvious ill effects

(stewart x-series golf trolley but think battery / charger is badged litepower unit).

Cheers gents.

I think I'll follow the manufacters guide and unplug it when the green light appears.

I did the same, would un plug when the green light came on, if i didn't then play for a few days the battery had lost some of its charge and would not make a full 18.

Its a Motocaddy, Pro advised me to leave on charge the whole time which i have done since and its been fine

As I understand it lithium batteries are potentially more dangerous than other types and, if overcharged, can catch fire. The charger is computer controlled to prevent overcharging but if, due to overuse, a fault occurs, the battery may incinerate itself and, possibly, your house. I like to charge my battery as soon as I come home & disconnect it before going to bed. That, apparently, is why small, rechargeable, lithium batteries, like you put in cameras etc. are virtually unobtainable.

I unplug mine when the light turns green if I remember, but it's tucked out of sight and quite often I forget with no apparent ill effects.

This thread has just reminded me that I haven't unplugged it this week!
