No thanks...

I played my 1st ever links round on Perranporth links and it was dismal. endless blind shots and dodgy bounces! I cant say i'll be hurrying back...

Possibly not the ideal course to be introduced to links golf, not played it myself yet but well informed that's its quite tough and quirky.

I'm looking forward to playing to it.

You might appreciate it more next time round.

Especially if it's Winter and your Parkland course is waterlogged and stodgy and the ball plugs in the greens. Links courses have the wonderful attribute of 'automatically' making themselves a bit easier in Winter as the rough shrink. Greens and Fairways are just as friendly. If you learn to appreciate, or at least tolerate, the occasional random bounces and try admiring the scenery - or even the desolate lack of it - I'm sure you'll end up appreciating them a bit more.

Does seem as if you selected a bit of a challenging one to start. Links courses are not renowned for blind shots, but it is Cornwall!

"A blind hole is only blind once to a golfer with a memory"; Tom Weiskopf.

Yes there are a few blind holes at Perranporth, there's a few marker posts as well. It's not your typical links course, but to dismiss all links golf on the basis of that one round is a bit rash.

If you get the chance Fish, take it, it is a little quirky but none the worse for that and is terrific value.

Never played a true links course, so not in an ideal position to comment. Equally, never played a course well (for me) the first time round. Sounds like a frustrating round, but I couldn't write off the whole category on the basis of one go...

I don't play enough links golf to worry. I do like the challenge and appreciate the quirkiness of it. I prefer playing heathland given the choice of the different courses but perfectly happy to play wherever. I have never minded blind shots as long as the markers are accurate (not always the case) and I take the quirky bounces. Its a different mindset

As stated by a few others, Perranporth is notorious for the number of blind shots but it is what I would class as a fun holiday course rather than a serious course. Give a few more links a try before making up your mind, once you get the bug you'll love it.

Foxholer hits the nail on the head, when your inland course is boggy and the greens are crap, you'll be keen to get back out on a nice playable links ;)

Blind shots do my head in when playing solo. I never feel confident in attacking them for fear of losing my ball after what seems like a good shot. There's a few holes at Heaton park that are blind and one bad bounce can mean a perfectly good shot ends up costing you.

Only ever played one links course, the Dunluce links at Royal Portrush and I would defy anyone not to enjoy that place

Easier to enjoy when you aren't paying for it ;). I wasn't jealous in the slightest.

I've played a fair few of them now and I love them but they don't tend to love me. I do feel a little more comfortable on parkland but nothing does the ego more good than a powerful drive straight down the middle of a firm links fairway. I swear that is how most of the "average" distances quoted on here are worked out. ;)

Heart-attack Hill 17th is one! Though if short, you can apparently find it quite easily - behind you!

The annoying thing about the 17th is you feel scared to overdo your pitch shot to the green as there is a public footpath directly behind and I don't want a hefty insurance claim against me when I thin one into someone's face. This means I often undercook the shot and see the ball roll backwards down the hill and end up further away than before.

I have only been a member of inland links courses, good for winter golf and the perks of an inland course too! IMO the perfect compromise.

I have tried links golf and parkland both OK but I prefer the nice middle ground.

What is an inland links course? How is that even possible?
