Links courses - another ranking list

I've played precisely 0 of the courses in that list. I really need to get out and play more links golf to see what the fuss is all about. I suppose Royal St Georges on the forum trip isn't a bad place to start.

Played Royal Co Down, Royal Portrush and Portstewart in the last year. If anything Portstewart should be higher than it is.
For the views alone I would have Ardglass on that list

The Valley course at Portrush is my aim for this year before its ripped to pieces for the open...

Haven't played the big ones in NI, but went to the Irish open at Co Down, looks fantastic.

I also agree with Ardglass, quality course and very welcoming. Also very good price during the summer for open comps.

Played 14 of those, some more than once. Would be quite something to have played them all.
Pretty subjective of course but important to clubs being on there perhaps to attract visitors / up their prices etc.

Managed 15 of them to date, but so many good courses still to go. At 4 a year that's over 20 years... I'm gonna have to up the hit rate, or have people wheel me round in bath chair. Looks like I better put together a priority list.

I would recommend the down summer trophy. RCD, Ardglass and one other (last year was Spa) for £140.

I'm not 100% convinced I would class Ardglass as a links course, more of a clifftop course as it doesn't really have the sandy soil and correct grass types to be a true links.

I count 26 that I've played fully - and another (Renaissance) that I've 'played' some of before it was open.

For areas that often look very similar (and rather bland'), they can be very different beasts to actually play.

All such lists are pretty subjective, but I'd be pretty happy playing any of them, either from memory or reputation! There's something magic for me about links courses. Perhaps the way they are different every time or how nature increases or moderates the difficulty of the course in tune with the seasons!

Only played 2 so far - Hillside & Seacroft & am looking forward to Porthcawl in a couple of weeks

I've only played Hayling on that list, it's only an hour from my house and is our regular "treat" day away. I love it. This spring we plan to venture up to Sandwich to play Princess and Cinque Ports, maybe Royal St George if we can stretch to it too..

Where else in the south (other than Littlestone, which is also on our hit list) would folks reccomend?

Not gone through it in detail yet....

They've got Formby and Hillside the correct way round for once

Aberdovey seems way too high, shouldn't be ahead of Gullane 1 for sure

Lundin too high, certainly shouldn't be above Wallasey.

St Annes Old Links should be in here if Leven Links and Lundin are.

Will have a read later on tonight.

Edit: All in my opinion of course

I've played 37 of them....and 8 of the top 10. Most of those names are there or thereabouts on most lists of that type.

Hugely subjective, and who am I to argue. One thing that always strikes me is the "atmosphere" many of these places have as soon as you drive into the car park. (or is that just the anticipation) I grew up in Surrey, so trips to a links always felt different (and special) And..the prices have sure shot up in the last few years!

26 on this for me, a few I think are the wrong order. A few deserve to be higher than they are IMO but it's quite a decent list for anyone looking to tick off good links courses.
