So it was the mrs birthday bash, 6 couples off for a night away. After much searching we decided on here, the wife had been quite vocal the spa facilities were more important than the golf course! (I wanted Celtic Manor!)

Being a racecourse golf course i was not really looking forward to it, but from arrival i was quite impressed! the hotel was great, room was large, clean with everything we needed even a view over the race course!

To the golf, pro shop was small, but friendly staff. Practice facilities were very good, but expensive for balls, £4 for 40 i think. Driving range long enough for over average forum distances, chipping green, putting green all very nice.

The course itself is a typical parkland course, good mix of par 3's and 5's. for 6 holes you cross the course and play up the side of hill. For the time of year, i was very impressed with the condition, only a handful of boggy bits and all the greens played well enough.

Pick of the holes was par 5 15th, down hill tee shot, crossing a ditch then turns sharp left and uphill to an elevated two tier green. 525 yards, 2 x 5 woods, a lob wedge and putt saw my only birdie of the day!

Back to the bar, while being a hotel it was not cheap, not crazy around £4.20 a pint. We also had a set menu dinner which was very good, about 5 choices for starter main and pud and then breakfast in the morning (which was excellent)

Mrs Rooter said the spa was good, however very busy and she wanted more treatments on top of the paid for massage (included) but they were too busy and could not fit her in.

Overall, very nice experience for his and hers (when her doesn't golf!) night away, cost me £98 each plus a bar tab of about £60, so around £250... Booked via Spabreaks.com who are the same group of companies as golfbreaks.com

All in all, a solid 8/10.
