Weather permitting, playing it on Monday and looking forward to it. Another one ticked off my golfing bucket list.
Apart from course manage, any advice.

Fantastic place.
Get there early and have a snack in the old school clubhouse, then use the excellent practice facilities.
Lovey range and short game area.

4th hole before your approach to the green, it's a must that you go and have a look at the location beforehand. Don't just use the target pole!

Very nice course.
I recommend the smoked salmon and scrambled egg for breakfast if you have time.

Keep it straight if you can.
Play to below the hole on the second.
Don't be short on your approach to the 4th (or long!).
11 always seems to play longer than it looks.
13 is a great hole, again make sure you take an extra club or two for your approach.
Choose a club to find the back of the green on the 18th.
Greens can be very fast, although at this time of year it's hard to predict.

Meeting up for a drink before we set off, looking forward to going. When I first got back into golf, the guy who I am playing with on Monday fixed me up with a pro at lindrick for lessons, ( Luke) helped me massively. The guy was involved with Sheffield boys team and had dealt with loads of pros. Times I stood looking out from the first looking to bladder one

My brother's wife used to be a member there and I've play in the mixed open the last few years.
When you're sitting in the clubhouse looking out the window the course just invites you out there to bladder one up the first as you so rightly put it.
I love it and I'm sure you will!

Played here in September with a member I know. Unfortunately the first few holes were in fog so bad visibility was about 30 yards.

Was lovely though from what I actually saw!

Just played today at our pad and both shot 33. Him off 15 me off 21. I got him a freebie ticket for today. ( long boring story). But he said Monday is a freebie for you as well:whoo:

PS hit flag on our 17th par three today, me tyrets kicked in when it went past the hole and did not drop.

Played it last year, perhaps a notch below Notts and Sherwood Forest but nonetheless very nice. We were having a drink afterwards and the Captain came over and introduced himself. He was telling us about the two tunnels they have built under the A57 which cuts through the course.

Strange you should mention the tunnels, one of the lads was on about them last week. When Tornado Tash smashed through Sherwwod last year, most of the clubs in Notts chipped in and gave free rounds to Sherwood members. In return Sherwood gave free rounds to well me. Played Sherwood with four pals last March or April. Every green was a temp. I was devastated. It was a glorious day and it just killed the day playing on fairway greens.
I had caddied there nearly forty years ago and was bigging up the day looking forward to going back, oh well.

That was a shame. We gave them free rounds as well (which they had done for us some years ago when we were closed for foot and mouth), and I managed to play three times on a courtesy last winter. No temps then. I am sure you will go back one day, it's well worth it.

Ended up in Aldi Monday morning and bumped into one of the lads who is a member at Sherwwod. He plays a bit with the lad at Lindrick. He did no than invite himself along on Monday. Not a problem to me because he will be getting some stick in the sense that the greens are better at Lindrick than Sherwood😜. Obviously he's going to have to prove me wrong and invite me for a game. 😁

Oh Lordy Lordy, Tashyboy has played at a big boys course. It was gorgeous. On what has been the sunniest day of the year so far, Tashyboy at times brought his A game and it was scary.
Took me 50 mins to get the 10 miles to the course due to probs on A1 and diverted traffic. but as soon as I got there my PP ( Sherwwod lad never turned up due to family prob) showed me around the clubhouse and it is stunning. I know about the Ryder cup being played there in 1957, but to see the history in the clubhouse, trophies etc is something else.
Anyway first tee and I nailed my drive which run a yard into the naughty stuff. Two knobbed shots later a a flippin 7 on the first hole. All my drives were excellent I cannot ever remember driving so well. then on a par four I smashed a drive, knocked my approach onto the green and two putted. mr Par monster had turned up. in the first six holes I had five putts for par. Next hole par three, Mr par monster turned up again. Two pars on the spin. Followed by a stoopid double bogey.

Then it happened. Stood on a par four and asked where the drive needed to be, don't get me wrong at our place you can see where every drive has to go, but not Lindrick. He showed me where and 220 yd later my Ping G30 had nailed another. Split the fairway. Watch showed 200 yd to the middle. So fairway wood comes out and 20 seconds later the ball is 15 ft from the pin. I did not know that til I got 30yd from the flag. Birdie putt. A minute later Tashyboy is screaming " le birdie". It dropped dead plumb. I was golfing with the gods and they were handing over the cash. For twenty mins it was like floating on air.

Back nine was sloppy, my driving was immense but most second shots were poor very poor.

But what an impressive place it is. Many many thanks to the green keepers who are doing a magnificent job and doing some impressive alterations. To the people that are running the club. I salute you.

Another bucket list course ticked off. That is two Ryder cup courses I have played the other being the Brabazon, and in all honesty, away from the corporate hustle and bustle of the Brabazon. I much preferred Lindrick.

And for one fleeting moment " I WAS THE MAN". Walking in the footsteps on legends.

Nice one!

Nothing better than playing a top course and finding out that you've brought your A-Game with you, or at least a part of it. :D:thup:

Played there 25yrs ago - me and my mate Kevin had lunch in the main dining room. Just me and him sat there in jacket and tie - at end of great long dining table. Waitress comes in all neatly dressed in her 'traditional' waitresses uniform - bearing a great silver platter on which sat our ham sandwiches :)

Can't mind much about the course - I recall it being very quiet and we really enjoyed our round.

You know when you have gone" posh" I bought a bag of pipers crisps. Said girl behind bar opened them for me and placed them in a bowl. 😁

Having read re a few comments that the course may be a bit short, they are in the process of lengthening the course by extending tees and placing bunkers on doglegs stopping players from taking the tiger line.

PP said he loves it coz no two holes are the same, got to agree with him on that.

Played there last year - liked the first hole but never got the next 17. Nice condition but they must have been desperate for a venue that year for the Ryder Cup.......

Sad also in this day and age you have to stand on a mat in the corner of a (empty) bar to order a drink as you haven't a jacket and neck wear to go and drink it in the hallway across the corridor.

It was an odd set up that we had a coffee in the lounge before we went out but, could only go in the bar after we had played to order drinks and then drink them in the Ryder cup room. You have to wear shirt, tie and jacket after 11.00 am.

This year is there 125th anniversary and there is a good write up in there commemorative booklet about how the Ryder cup ended up there. Reading between the lines. It probably says a lot of how (poorly? ) golf was run in GB by the PGA at that time. The £10,000 donated by Sir Stuart Goodwin along with £16,127 allowed the PGA to make a record net profit of £11,000. I don't know, but I wonder if the PGA had other options for that year ?
