I need to practice my short game hopefully tighten it up over winter and Come into next season and get the handicap straight back down
If your range has greens, great, but if not a mistake I was making for a long time (and no t knowing it) was I would just hit at markers. I'd take 100 balls and the ones I wasn't driving I'd "hit at" the 100, 150 etc. This is flawed. What matters at these distances is your carry. So now I never take more than 50 full shots and concentrate much harder on them, rather than just bashing one after another, and what I'm trying to do is land them just over the 150 or 100 marker. Once you start knowing your carries with clubs you can make a judgement on whether, for example, going over a bunker is a realistic option.
If you can carry the bunker, but you don't really spin the ball and it landing on a green is going to mean 30 yards of run, then you arent holding the green, so what is the point of the high tariff shot? In that case aiming to land it short of the green and running it on, even if its away from the pin, is the better option. But you wont know until you know your carry-run ratio, and hitting at a marker doesn't give you that information.
Good luck on your quest for improvement, youve seen how its done, go get em!
