Hi all, I've recently bought a new set if irons online and decided to go and get the lie angle checked - I'm 6 ft 4 andI know that standard length was correct as I've got long arms ( measured in custom fit for previous set) anyway after hitting about 20 balls I was fully expecting for them needing to be adjusted upright due to size - I was very suprised to find that they needed to be flattened 1.5 degrees - this is 2.75 degrees flatter than my previous set - are there any taller golfers playing flatter lie angles?

there are 3 things that are a good ways important to the length & lie of folks irons. how tall is one but that has to be coupled with the arm length, the wrist to floor measurement, the third often times overlooked is the natural swing plane of the particular swing motion in question.

so it's very possible your irons need to be flatter governed by the longer arms you have but coupled with a flatter swing plane, if you swing the club naturally more around your body rotation so at top of the swing the hands would be lower the left arm plane would be flatter nearer you shoulder plane, you could well need a flatter lie.

but a guy with the same static measurements as you but whose natural swing plane has the club going up more on a steeper plane so higher hands left arm on a steeper plane than the body rotation/shoulder plane could well need a little ways more upright lie.

so the answer is very specific not only to the static measurements of the golfer but also that golfers particular natural swing plane.

so if you're not having trouble with accuracy say most iron shots going a ways left or a ways right, the distance left or right being more magnified as you go through the set up in loft to the 9i/PW, as the more loft with toe up has the shots going further leftfield, or heel up with more loft has the shots going more rightfield, you should be okay, but if either of these things is happening it's likely to be down to the lie angle.

just need to trust where you got fit, if your not so sure try & look up a club fitter with a good rep & have a second opinion maybes - but if there's no real issue with accuracy/shot direction consistency then all good.

Thanks very much coach - I saw the results on the tape and there was defiantly a tendency to catch it a bit heely , the fitter was quite suprised at the results but has advised me to go back anytime and he would adjust them again free of charge.
