Does anybody know anything about more liberal thinking golf socities. I get fed up playing with those of true blue and UKIP persuassion, especially as the ssumption seems to be that every right thinking golfer is naturally in agreement with them.

i dont ever remember having a politics discussion during a round, like all groups there are no doubt all factions within the golfing community whilst on the course though you allo enjoy the same thoughts how to get the lowest score you can!

When you say " Liberal Minded" do you mean open minded and progressional......

Or turn a blind eye to the rules

or a nudist dress code

I think we should be told... :-)

If it's Nudist dress code, then AuburnWarrior's track, Redlibbets, has a nudist campsite running alongside the 12th! ;)

I hit 2 balls (golf that is) into there on Auburns meet and no 20 year old babe returned them so dissapointed!

I've just looked at that on Google maps (Nothing to been seen from satellite cam :(), but I can't believe the name of the woodland that the camp sits in.

Hi Mickyb,
I think the responses you received to a perfectly sensible post indicate the problem you and many others like you (and I ) face. The 'canteen culture' of the golfer. I have played golf for many years and love the game - but hate the general golf club mentality. There are some decent guardian reading/liberals who enjoy golf but tend to stay away from golf clubs and most societies. Deny it as they might but the pervading political correctness of the average golfer is - racist, sexist, xenophobic , hang them and flog them; lock them up and throw away the key blah blah - I can read it in the Daily Express I need to hear it while enjoying my passion for golf. If you can find a liberal minded golf society I would be in the queue alongside you to join it. Or perhaps we should get together and establish one.

I think the OP means a society where you put your car keys into the hat rather than your ball

ps....to the OP.....when you find this society, give me a shout ;)

Totally disagree and find it a touch offensive. My club may have "Royal" in the name but it's an eclectic mix. We have everyone from millionairres to guys that have lost everything and been on their uppers. Politics, creed or religion has never been any part of the membership criteria, come up in conversation on or off the course. Our 19th prides itself on being as welcoming as any local pub and friends and families are as welcome as any member.

Yes we have people who don't get on but then I get that in the workplace too. Its about compromise. In golf unless I'm drawn with them in a comp I don't play with them by choice. If we do get drawn I'll do everything to be as sociable and pleasant company as I can. We have some decision makers at the club who do get things wrong but you can't please all of the people all of the time. In fact Royal Ascot are taking the radical, nay enlightened view of appointing a lady club captain in 2014. She is a very good golfer in her own right. However she has had some senior posts in golf administration within the BBO (Berkshire, Bucks and Oxon Golf Union) and will be able to use these to drive the club forward and bring functionality of the club up to date. I think its a brave (not overwhelmingly popular with some more senior and died in the wool members) decision and can't wait to see how it pans out.

Not all clubs are the same and clearly your view has been tainted. I feel sorry for you that you have these views but don't tar us all with this "canteen culture" brush

I went along to a local club as they said they were swingers:lol: turns out to be old golfers:(:o
