I'm playing Lewes on Monday as I travel down that way to visit a friend from university and we thought we would take advantage of the cheap green fee.

I've heard it's a nice course and you can get some really good views (probably heard it here) Is it worth taking a camera on my round?

Also, I'm there on tuesday too and was wondering if anybody would recommend another half decent course in the area. Staying in Blackboys (PC Brigade anybody?) in Uckfield. As I'm staying with an unemployed graduate if they do 2Fore1 or are generally cheap, no doubt they will be considered!

Appreciate the help x

East Sussex National is right there is you want to spend up and play a championship course. Otherwise Crowborough Beacon and Mid Sussex are on the doorstep.

Absolutely, I've been a member there for a couple of months and when everything starts falling appart I just look at the wonderful veiws ....... doesn't help the golf but who cares.

You could always try Crowborough or Hoyte on the Tuesday.

Where is Hoyte? Can't say I have ever heard of that club - and I am based in Sussex.

I think he means "Holtye" which is on the A264 between Tunbridge Wells and East Grinstead. Tight little 9 hole course which is always in lovely condition but is a bit of a trek from where the OP is staying though.
Piltdown (just outside of Uckfield) is a nice course, very similar to Crowborough but not as hilly and without the carries across heather. Little bit more open and easier to score on but still a fair test of golf. Crowborough would be my first choice though, but either of the two will be a little more costly than Lewes.
Or you could always head towards Eastbourne and play either Willingdon or Seaford Head. Seaford head is a nice municipal in Seaford (funnily enough!) and won't cost you an arm and a leg to play. The course goes up on top of the hill half way round and the scenery up there is superb. And I guarantee you will be gobsmacked when you see where you are driving off from on the 18th!! One of the best driving opportunities in Sussex!
As you are staying in Blackboys (lovely little village) the closest course to you is East Sussex National as somebody else mentioned. Two courses, the East & the West. The East course is where they played the European Open back in the early 90's, the West course used to be for members only but they will take a green fee on either of them now. They are not cheap though, unless they are doing a twilight special. Don't know how good a player you and your mate are, but the East Course is a little "easier" than the West, although neither of them are a pushover due to the length of some of the holes.
As I've said..my first choice would be Crowborough (little bit biased 'cos I was a member there for 11 years) which is about a 20 minute drive from Blackboys, or Piltdown (which is about a 10 minute drive away). East Sussex National is literally 5 minutes or so down the road.
If you need any more info, please ask. I'm from around that neck of the woods in case you hadn't already realised!

I'm pretty sure Mid Sussex do 2-4-1 vouchers, so a game there is something like £15 inc discount.

I think East Sussex is a tad more pricey, tbh.

Two more courses I would recommend if you are looking for "cheaper" golf and don't mind driving a little way??

Royal Ashdown Forest (West Course)....

Well established course, lots of trees and heather, not too expensive. I guess it's about 25 minutes drive towards East Grinstead from where you are staying.

Or Chartham Park near Lingfield.

A lot newer and not quite so tight, but I love playing here. If I lived closer, I'd join. No doubt about it. Usually in very good condition, fair bit of water comes into play and I know that they are doing "deals" on green fees at the moment. You should be able to get on there for £20.00 each I reckon.
I guess it would take you about 40 minutes to get there from Blackboys but well worth a trip if you don't mind the travelling.
