Today, i can truly call myself a golfer – Went round in level PAR for the first time ever today. 3birdies and 3bogies, the rest pars. :D

Had a moment of clarity today and thought id share with you guys as the wife is giving me funny looks!

Playing partner called off at last minute so decided to play on my own. I have been moaning about my cold putter lately so decided to record my stats and analyse later to see if i could flag up a problem area to work on. Well bugger me, did i not go out and play the round of my life.

I am not a stats type guy, more a grip and rip type that loves a good chat during the round. Well today i was determined to concentrate on my stats and can’t believe the difference it made to my round, amazing.

Although, initially I was interested in my putting stats i decided to go the full hog and record everything about my round. Wow i can’t believe the difference that this focus made to my scores. I was completely zoned out and had a focus never experienced before on the golf course. The notion of playing one shot at a time suddenly made sense.

On the tee my absolute focus was to hit the fairway, nothing else mattered, didn’t care how far it went and in fact i probably lost distance because i was trying to be accurate. I have never hit the driver as straight as i did today. I only averaged about 220yards which was short by my normal standard. I missed one fairway the whole round and the miss was on the first cut.

When going for the green my focus was on GIR stats and because of that i was aiming at the middle of the green on every shot, couldn’t care less where the flag was because i wanted good stats for my GIR. I have never hit my irons as well as today, couldn’t believe it. Only missed two greens and both misses were on the fringe. I think the focus on keeping my stats good had improved my iron play.

Same with putting and early on during the round i am completely obsessed by my stats and my top priority was to keep the stats sheet clean and concentrate only on that shot.

Here are the stats from my skycaddie.I only played 17 holes due to a short par3 being out for maintenance

Fairways Hit - 92%, (13 out of 14) average distance 225 yards
GIR - 88% (15 out of 17) (2missed on the fringe)
Putts – 32 for 17holes (2x3putts) & (4 single puts)

17holes played (115yard par3, Si18 out for maint)
3 Birdies, 3 bogies, 11 pars

Not quite sure what to make of all this, but it seems that when i only focused on one thing at a time, ie hitting the fairway or green etc it made everything else click into place! I tried not to think about lengths, flags, swing thoughts etc

Still think i might have a cold putter tho:confused:
Thanks for listening.

Wow that sounds great!

I find playing on my own useful at times, especially when there are not many others on the course. I sometimes hit more than one ball and find it much better practice than the range, especially par 3's practice.

Keep it up!

I know what you mean bluetoon,
many years ago I played Pennard (South Wales) on my own. I played two balls, 1 x yellow & 1 x white.
Found myself concentrating sooooooooo much more than usual. I wasn't scoring shots but playing matchplay between the two balls, so I don't know my numbers, but I do remember thinking how well I'd played and that I actually spent NO time looking for my ball.
Try it, it works........................I didn't laugh as much though & I do miss the banter.

Slime.

Matchplay against yourself? Who won?

Try playing CHESS against yourself... it's awesome as you know what's coming, and why :p

Ahhh. But when I'm playing golf I have absolutely no idea what's coming next...............even if it's a two foot putt.

Slime.

P.S. I think yellow won.....1 up. :whoo:

well done matey ,I'm looking for that sort of round someday

you do know when you tell your playing partner ,he mightn't believe you ,you will have to show him the way to play proper golf now

good look for next time

Good shooting although the pedant would argue 17 holes played isn't strictly a level par round That said I think its a marvellous achievement and well played. Some decent stats and a good write up

Fair shout, but it was our easiest hole that was out, par3 115yards, a certain par, possible birdie chance. :blah:

So for them reasons i'm calling it a par round. :ears:

very nice, heard good reports about peterhead, how long would it take us to get there from cruden bay??

5mins... no disrespect to my home course. its a solid track, good value and a few classic holes, but Cruden Bay stands out from the crowd due to its quirkiness and elevation changes. + a clubhouse with awesome views.

aye but when were up there in july for 4 day open if we get finished early enough, might come up for a knock if your willing to entertain us, or can go to newmacher know a lad there, think he this years vice capt

You're being hard on yourself, I think you'd of birdied it on that form for a sub par round!
