After finally getting myself some new golf shoes (FJ Sport because I couldn't find the Pumas). I've started looking at socks. Now to me socks have always just been socks and I'm happy enough to spend £5 for 5 pairs at Tesco but when I picked up my FJ Sport I noticed a large range of "Golf Socks" which got me thinking. Are these really worth investing my money in to (like boot socks were back when I worked in construction) or are they a sock like any other??

Doctor P.

Used to have some FJ socks, but last year got about 10 pairs of Aldi golf socks. Padded soles and mesh upper, great for warm days. I think they were pretty cheap too

Never tried socks designed for playing golf in, can't really see the point unless you want maybe thermal ones for winter.

Your best option are some decent walking socks like Brasher.

They are expensive but so comfortable, and much more durable than average socks.

Worth the money in my opinion.

I have a couple of pairs of adidas golf socks and they are more comfortable than a standard sock. I actually need to invest in some new pairs.
All my other socks are thin dressed socks so never going to be great on the course.

Any pair you want, just so long as they dont go above your ankle and hence start off the "always good for a laugh" dress code debate ;) ...

I used to buy FJ socks and that kind of thing. I don't bother now. My latest choice of sock has "Regatta" written on them (outdoor-wear) and were about £5 for 3 pairs. At least as good as FJ and possibly harder wearing.

Socks are socks, or, are they?
What next?
I know, lets google footjoy thong, with mesh pouch, and of course wicking properties.
Agh! Could only find one, used, on Ebay, user name "The Walrus"....Think i will give it a miss. Although hang on, what's this - Natalie Gulbis.....

I didn't understand a word of this, but I'm chuckling away.... :)

I used to wear Nike socks but found them very hard. Gave me great distance off the tee but absolutely no feel around the greens or when putting.
I recently purchased some Wilson's which are made with a much softer material. My putting and chipping has improved no end. I've lost a little distance off the tee but am prepared to sacrifice this for the extra feel that I am getting.
I often find the odd Nike sock in the rough when I am searching, but hardly ever find a Wilson one.
