Hi guys,

Looking for a bit of advice/reassurance.

I took up golf about 3 months ago( have the bug big time). At first i was constantly hitting the ball way right. Now it seems to be combination of, way right, fat shots, topping the ball etc,(over thinking everything) to the point i **** my pants everytime i get asked to go for a game. I think lessons are a must and was wondering if you have ever been in the same boat and lessons helped a great deal. I know i won't give up now i've started playing( only wish i started years ago) but seem to crumble everytime i go to tee off.

Cheers guys.

Lessons will probably help you,but sounds like you need to relax a bit more when playing. Don't forget everybody was new to the game at some point.

I can't stress enough the importance of lessons as a beginner. Groove in the basics now and you will find you improve much quicker later on. And like Pin-seeker says, just relax and enjoy the game.

Welcome to the forum, agree with the above get some lessons and gets some of the basics in place, it will do you good.

It's a frustrating game at times but if you remember what you are taught in the lessons it will stand you in good stead for the future.

Where are you playing your rounds.

Even if i can find a semi consistant swing with lessons i know i'll simmer down a bit when i'm on the course.

Just needed a bit of advice from guys who have been there..

Appreciate the reply guys.

Cheers.

Welcome along. Where are you from? Lessons at the beginning to get the fundamentals right will stand you in good stead. We've all been where you are and you will learn more from playing on the course than bashing ball after ball on a range. It has its place for working on the drills your pro gives you but the course is where golf is played

Hello welcome and enjoy.

All good points above try and relax easier said than done!! :)

Lessons will make a big differance IMO if you can start off with basic grip and posture it will help no end in the future. Was you get a swing fault ingrained it takes a long long time and lots of practice to erase it!

Just in and around Greenock in scotland just now. Trying to see where best to join next year.

My hometown, guess you are knocking it round Whinhill and maybe Routenburn?

Pretty much all clubs in the area are almost desperate for new members, so get along and try them out.

I agree lessons are a must if just starting out, better starting being taught the basics properly than heading off yourself and playing then trying to sort yourself out later.

Marty, get lessons. Look at the swing of a good golfer (be it a pro or a low handicapper at your local course) then look at the swing of a high handicapper at your local course. I bet the high handicapper's swing looks terrible in comparison, almost to the point of you wondering why on earth they make a swing like they do. I'll also bet that high handicapper at the very least started playing without taking lessons or possible never had lessons.

Now there's half a decent argument that how you swing doesn't matter, and that what matters is how many swings you take BUT you still need a half-decent swing to cut down the number of swings in the first place.

So, I say get lessons so that you're not one of those guys that make other people wonder why on earth you make a swing like you do! ;)

hello from sweden,,our courses are closed in wintertime and we have indoor golf houses for training.. if you take lessons, make sure that it is a program at least for ca 10 times... it take some lessons to get a mental picture how the swing should be,,arms movements is essential to have a mental picture of,, at least for me-- for ex to avoid chiken wing etc......one or 2 lessons wouldnt help....for this winter training i have bought a swingjacket to help me get a muscle memory,,,,we will see if it will work
