Looking to see what the experts have to say on this matter.

I have an opportunity of a real good deal that I would like to do. For $400 (£270ish) I can get a set of MP4 fitted with C-Taper shafts. They are in mint condition so looks like real steal. Only problem is that I will need to extend them by 1 inch and I don't know how that will change the way the shaft plays.

I have read articles on the Internet and I understand that by putting the extensions in it does alter the flex point and will move it further from the butt end, obviously increasing the launch angle. But I have been reading that shafts like the C-Taper do not be affected like a traditional shaft with steps in.

Can someone please help me.

Hit a ball with your 7 iron.
Then hit another ball with your 7 iron holding an inch down the grip.
Would you feel any difference in the shaft flex or swing weight.
No.
If your not convinced, buy the set and just extend one club and see how it feels

Thats the thing bob, I don't think it would make that much difference. But I thought I would ask the question and see the feedback. Lot of crap on the Internet about it, but at the end of the day I'm not a tour golfer and the difference in the swing weight...... Well am I really good enough to notice.

MP4 with C-tapers? An excellent choice for the discerning golfer.

You could contact KBS technical and ask them. http://kbsgolfshafts.com/support

When I saw this opportunity I just feel I need to take it. I remember hitting the MP4 with the C-Taper in once before at Bearwood Lakes, I wonder who they belonged to 😉

i have sent sent a message to KBS to see what they say, don't want to buy them to find out that lengthening them will mess the shaft profile up.

You're changing the shaft at the butt end not the tip...I don't think you'll feel any difference at all.
Go with Bob's suggestion.

Totally agree with this approach!

I've done the equivalent and been successful.

Anyone know of a cheap effective way of removing grips? These clubs have got a nearly new set of multi compounds fitted. I've not got an airline and I've seen fancy tools online but for what they cost I might as well get new grips.

if you got an adapter for air bed/basket ball, syringe some grip fluid under between steel & rubber. attach the air line in the butt end give a few short bursts of air & twist, it should blow them off.
doesn't take whole bunch of psi. best off using a tube (plastic/cardboard) cut to little less than the grip length over the grip to hold & twist to protect the hand. you bang too much air pressure in it can explode the rubber.

I did the grip removal process described above and found that turning the grip upside down a few times whilst inflating helped the fluid do it's job.

since you're in the US, golfsmith will sell a grip remover tool which will allow you to do the job more cheaply than a pro. a squeezy bottly with some white spirit and you can get a grip off in 30 secs.

You mean the rod you force down between the grip and the shaft?

well that link is for tape remover, but yes they do have the grip remover on there as well, but probably more fancy than it needs to be. its the same one as Region 3 links to.

they're a bit pricey though - for that money you probably could get a pro to do it for less.

mine was about half price, and well worth it because my pro is a clown...
