Some may know me and the new white stick are not in the most perfect relationship at the moment, when it goes its long, but when its wrong is wrong and long... which is getting penalising.

Last night in an attempt to rekindle the love i hit the range both drivers in hand and the result....

Well withoiut a doubt the R11 is no where near as consistent as the burner 09. Now im not sure if this is down the the smaller head, or the slightly stiffer shaft, but when the r11 is wild, its bad, when the burner is misshit at most ill be in the second cut of rough.

Now the best bit. In timmy smash factor golfy style its scary how much longer the r11 is over the burner. A pefectly pinged burner drive would bounce into the fence on our range (which is now 220 uphill). When i say bounce into i mean just about reach. Now given the fact that its around 10-15 meters uphill at 220 yards and im using range balls id take that everyday without being up the top to watch where their landing i reckon carry is about 200 yards with a 20 yard roll/bonce on. but now the scary bit. The little white stick pitches into it. not high up, and definately not smash factor over teh top of it... but a creamed one was hitting hitting the fence clearly visable. the r11 must have atleast 25-30 more carry.

What was more interesting is the burner seemed to have a slow motion flight, where the ball just flew through teh air at the same pace. now the white stick.... when you hit that it seemed to get to mid flight and then almost look like it had been hit again... very very strange.

Got a driving lesson tomorrow night, to iron out the wild ones, but i hate to say it i dont think i can let go of the white stick just yet. that thing is HUGE!

If you can learn to drive the ball and not try to smash the cover off the ball I'm sure the R11 will work for you.

I have the R11 3 wood and it goes a mile when struck properly, just as far as my old driver (which I don't carry now due to the 3 wood hitting the same distance).
Welcome to the R11 club mate. :)

I have actually got an R9 driver off a friend to try out to see if I can hit it further than the 3 wood. At the moment the only thing I can hit past the 3 wood was a 910D2 driver but I wasnt very consistent with accuracy.

OS, I used to have the 09' Tour Burner and I have to agree it was a very forgiving club.

When I moved from that to the R9 (Going from a 460cc to 420cc) I can honestly say I didn't notice that much difference. I agree that mis-hits are not forgiven as much but all-in-all I actually prefer the smaller head and how it sits at address.

Do you think the problem could be the shaft not suiting your swing?

Do you have the stock shaft in the R11 (Cant remember if its the Fujikura Blur or the Aldila RIP)?

Losttheplot, ive had it for around 6-8 weeks, first few outings were.... intesting but after that it seemed to go well, just the last few rounds have made me lose confidence with the club which is a major issue.

I notice last night that when swinging with the burner, because i know and trust the club, everything was easy. With the R11 i seemed to tense up and then struggle to get a hip turn through the ball and get very handsy. if i can get this under control im onto a winner.

Gareth, with you HC how comes you didnt stick with the burner. if the r9 isnt as consistent i thought that would be exactly what you were looking for around that HC.

When I saw the post title I was not even going to read the post and just write "consistency!" but reading your post I think you are best to stick with the R11.

I used to use a Callaway FT-iQ, it was the most easy to hit, consistent driver I have ever had the plesure to hit. However it was not long and it had no edge to it. I played about and ended up with the Titleist 909 D2 and although you can not compair like for like as the 909 has a better shaft and 1.5* less loft. The 909 is SO SO much longer on good hits and although it is not unforgiving it has an edge to it that keeps me in check. I find if I lash at it it will punish me, however if I make a good swing but maybe get a little of center it will forgive me. I would think its not unlike your current situation.

To be quite honest OS I had the opportunity to get the R9 brand, spanking, shiney new for £20. With the 09' Burner My stock shot was, as is with the R9 (Set to Neutral) a fade and the option of adjustability to counter this in the R9 appealed to me.

As for consistancy, At the range last night I had a play with the settings and found a particular set up that works well for me. (Set-up noted in yesterdays thread)

I make no excuses, but what I will say is this. If my wife didn't get vouchers given to her by a friend, I would still be using my 09' Burner.

Exactly the same for me Alex. I just love the Titleist D2 as it feels like the FT9 with a better trajectory and miles more distance. I have worked for a few weeks now on being balanced at the finish of my swing with all clubs and its suprising how much better I swing, how far the ball goes with what feels like a half swing

Tempo is everything!

Alex, i think your right, the technique tweeking through a lesson should benifit throughout the bag, and the distance gained with the r11 is turning medium length par5 into par4's so worth teh tweek.

Gareth its the stock blur shaft.

^I have been saying this to myself for days.

What have you been doing to maintain your ballance at the finish and what is it doing? keeping the ball stright or giving distance?

I have the R9 at the moment and have to say that playing around with the settings a little really has helped, but the lesson recently and slowing the swing down had a more dramatic effect.

It may not last I know, but last night I hit 8/8 fairways and the carry was far greater for me. (the rest were non-driver holes and we finished afer 14 as we had won 5&4).

So before dropping the beast grab a lesson and have a play with set up - you may find some love for it. If not I will PM you my address to post it to :D :D

Would you consider getting another shaft for the R11 i think the adaptors are cheap enough so you could try a different shaft it may give u a bit more consistency without loosing much length.
Mike

I was thinking the same thing this morning. you talk about how the ball seems to go off then act like it has been hit again, that must be spin realted imo. It could be a good spin thing or it could be unpredictable. I am talking s$1t but you take the point.

alex and mike, i have thought about the double strike flight so to speak, i want to have a lesson tomorrow with it, onces thats grooved im going to drop the loft/spin rate back to standard to see if it has an effect. at the moment its on +0.5*/+500rpm spin,
