Evening folks,

Due to the adverse weather I have had more time than normal on my hands and have read this months mag for cover to cover. I thoroughly enjoyed the feature with Westwood, Harrington and Clarke but I think they should have done so without wearing their heavily sponsored caps. We all know who pay them to advertise on the nappers but is it not bad etiquette to wear your hat indoors and in particular the clubhouse?

I remember ripping into F1 drivers for having every inch of their suits covered in sponsorship but golfers are becoming just as bad.

Are the big boys above reproach? Should they have left the caps in the locker room?

Wee rant over.

I totally agree but its usually written into contracts to get maximum exposure which is why you see racing drivers, golfers and even the cricketers all wearing caps for interviews so the brand can be see for the duration. To be honest what better way to get your brand seen by thousands in one go.

Do I think its right. Not at all and agree its bad form indoors.

I've just read that myself and thought it was an excellent piece, Clarkey comes across as a top bloke aswell.

Well done GM.

excellent article.....3 ordinary blokes with extraordinary talent!! Couldn't imagine an article like that with Faldo, Monty & Lyle!! :D :D :D

Mark i wonder would you take offence to that young lady in your avatar if she happened to come up and have a chat with you :D ;)
I dont mind them really....its bad etiquette to have them on indoors alright if your in company but as Homer said its all for the advertising...
Ithink that there will be a fair amount of people aroun the world buying GM so what better way to get your sponsor a plug.....

The pics were actually take in Westwood's gaff at Amendoeira rather than the clubhouse but I take your point with regard to old fashioned manners of not wearing one's cap inside. You'd have mega support for your views from GM editor at large Bill Elliott who absolutely hates caps - inside or outside and on or off the course!
In all seriousness the players do get paid well to wear branded apparel/headwear etc so they're expected to wear them when they're 'working'. And believe you me if you had to sit down and talk to GM's Jezz Ellwood for an hour you'd count that as 'work' rather than 'pleasure'.
Hats aside I'm glad everyone seems to have enjoyed the piece - it took a lot of negotiating and logistics to get three guys who are always in such demand together for a whole hour on the day before a tournament.
I remmember Jezz phoning me after the interview had finished really excited and saying how well it had gone and what good value the players had been.
The last time I'd heard him so pumped up was when he won about seven quid in bits money at GM office OOM event

I can see the issues with etiquette regarding the wearing of headgear inside, especially churches and clubhouses, What I fail to see is the objection to wearing caps on the course. I (along with many fellow forumers)am a total slaphead, smooth as glass on top and I need to wear a cap to protect the old bonse from the sun and wind. I have tried putting lashings of sun cream on, but it just gets in your eyes as you perspire.
Maybe a nice Tam O Shanter or maybe a stetson or knotted handkerchief, why not a top hat.
I like my baseball cap, keeps the sun off, good peak to protect the eyes and it doesn't fall off half way through a shot.
So until someone comes up with a better alternative im keeping mine on (outside)

" If you want to get ahead, Get a hat"

Yes really enjoyed the article a very good read.lots of sucking up to each other and 3 mates having fun.Thats the spirit of european golf all great mates.Couldnt imagine Woods Michelson and furick doing such article. Also love the thought of Faldo,Lyle,Montgomery especially now after whats gone on,probably end up in a scrap.

I myself don't like them and i think that some of the pros look ridiculous in them as they don't suit everyone, I say they should bring back the flat cap with the wolly bobble on top.
I wonder if they came down to my local town center would they be refused entry as we have a no hats or hoodies policy.

yes was a very good read and well done GM

i done think that the americans would be abole to do the same
there are some other people would be good for that type of thing

hats indoors - as a former naval person, terribly infra-dig you know. not only that but it's a bell-ringing offence in any naval wardroom or senior rates mess.
