Played in a charity day Friday. Stapleford format with everyone off 3/4 handicap. I've always played well on this particular course so was mentally expecting a reasonable score like low to mid 30's. Came in with 37 points playing off (adjusted)11. Effectively 41 points off full h/cap. Over the moon with the score. Came 2nd to a 24
handicapper playing off 18 with 38 points

Come Sunday, played in the 2nd day of my club's Autumn meeting. Medal comp with all tee markers off the stones. I was really up for it and mentally was working out that I could afford to shoot 6 under my h/cap and only effectively drop one shot (h/cap 15.4. 6 x 0.3 = 1.8 cut = 13.6 new h/cap). Ths is important as I have to play in the final round of one of our summer K.O.'s next week and I will need all the shots I can get.
I honestly don't know whether to be overjoyed with my game or totally pi33ed off.
I missed a short put on the 5th and my partner said that could be costly at the end of the round. I 3 putted the 16th for a double, and bogied the last two holes (a 5 on the 18th is always good though).
The course is a par 71 and the winning score was a net 67. I came 3rd on countback on net 68.
Yes. I'm very happy with the score BUT.. I went into the game with the conviction that I could shoot 6 under my h/cap and ended up 3 under with 3 stupid errors. I should have had a net 66 or 67.
The final straw was that the CSS for the day was raised to 72 so I will now be playing off 14 anyway, being cut by 1.2.
I suppose that the one important point to come out of this is that I went into both these games with the conviction that I could, and would, do well, and I did. Is this attitude the reason that Ian Poulter (who believes that he is 2nd in the world after Tiger) got Mr Faldo's nod?
