for a a few months now i've been striking my irons well but i dont seem to have a consistant miss. i either hit a push, push slice or a big draw/hook and chuck a few shanks in for good measure too.
my golf pro said its not path related as my swing path is spot on but the problem is with ''club face control'' he said on the downswing i keep the face open too long meaning that i have to rush the face through the impact zone. he said to close the club face down more at the start of the downswing so i dont have to rush it but to achieve this it feesl like i really have to retch it closed to achieve what he wants. the outcome is bigger hooks and pushes. i always thought nothing should be forced in a golf swing to get the club into possition. has anyone else had this problem and how did you sort it.

oh, yeh, my grip is 1 knuckle showing. i've tried weaker and stronger but the problem remains

I went to my current teaching pro in December 2011 on word of mouth recommendation. I was missing left (pulls and hooks) because I was getting trapped too far inside. I was missing left (weak fades and slices) when I came up and out of the shot. I didn't have a consistent miss. We worked on swapping to a one plane swing and eventually after a year of lessons I've taken the left out play a lot more. It is still there, usually when I get way too quick but my miss now tends to be a push. It is so much easier standing there looking at the fairway and knowing that you can ignore the left side.

I was lured here under false pretences, I thought this was following on from the armed forces thread and was about foot drill :(

I have been up the range 3 nights running now and hitting the ball very well. The biggest issue is direction. Try and set a routine setup/grip/swing and see where the ball lands. If its repeatable then great, if not then something changes.

This is what I am working on at the mo as the inconsistent direction is killing me. I have managed to get my dispersion down but I have to really pay attention to stance, grip, setup and swing (including tempo). Rinse and repeat is my plan until I get some level of consistency.

Hope you find something that works
