I am furious at, after having betted on both Lee and Ross from the beginning, the nerves of Mr Westwood. Ross is forgiven as his situation and lack of 'luck' was evident, however Lee basically for the 3rd time I believe 'bottled' it, and my personal opinion is that he 'doesn't have what it takes to win a major championship!!!!@

Your thoughts?

I think you're upset and probably bitter about losing the money you placed on them . Why not accuse fisher of being a bottler after taking a quadruple bogey on the 5th or 6th ?

If anything didn't Westwood not bottle it by being ultra aggressive with his birdie opportunity on the last?

What I think of when I hear 'bottled' is Watsons putt for par and the open on the 18th. Just didn't look like he was going to get it in.

Bottled it?

I'd be intrigued as how hitting an absolute peach from the fairway bunker is 'bottling it'! In my honest opinion Westwood lost it when he didn't make eagle on 17. Still hats off to him, he played great all week and should be even better equipped at the next major.

Thats a fair comment amd I do agree, however, you know from watching that Ross was punished heavily for just one poor shot off the tee, I feel that he does have 'what it takes'. That is what I feel and I am gutted about my bet which is fair comment too. Thankyou for your reply mate.

Thankyou,

The main point of my post is

'I DON'T THINK LEE WESTWOOD HAS IT IN HIM TO WIN A MAJOR'

Please comment and I am open to abuse!

Simon.

Hard to say.

Lee messed up 3 of the last 4 pretty badly.

He should have taken a club less at the 15th......instead of going for the back of the green.
I can't agree that he bottled it at the 17th.....
I also agree he didn't bottle it at 18
until.....
He shouldn't have even tried to make the birdie at the last once on the green....should have gone for the safe 2 putt.

I expect he'll be kicking himself for 3 putting.....should have lagged it up and popped it in....then if Watson made his par, he'd have no regrets.

I feel sorry for him, but I seem to remember the last time he was at the Belfry (playing the 18th over and over) he couldn't hit the green for toffee..

terrible play on all but 17.

It really peeved me off as I know that Lee is world class and to be honest a step above 'All of the competition today'

I think that he is screwed as far as Major are concerned.

There are far too many awesome 'up and coming' stars for him to 'bottle it'

'Bottle it' I mean that his nerve went. He is without question in the top 3 drivers of the ball in the world and he was in trouble time and time again off the tee.

I think it was now or never!!!!

Brill response and I agree,

I am talking about his hole round in general and also before the play off situation came about.

At the half way stage it was his and he knew it!

There is no way you can accuse Westwood of bottling it. He went face to face with Tiger and came up one shot light. He played very few poor shots all week but seemed to be more heavily punished than many others. Thats links golf. I think he did exceptionally well to even give himslef a putt on the 72nd hole and I think it was really a case of the caddy and him needing to work out the precentages. Two putt and see what Watson does would have been the play. I think he thought it was do or die as he hadn't raced anything of that length that far past at any other time.

He has worked hard on his short game and I agree it is probably lacking compared to many but he finds a lot of fairways and greens. I think it was a case of one rush of blood on 18 rather than bottling it.

Look at his record at majors recently and you'll see that he at least gets into the heat of battle on the last nine on a Sunday unlike so many of the so called great British hopes. I think he still has a major in him

Yep,

Very good.

I am not doubting his ability for one minunte. I think though that he has got to a point where he is very good at chasing the lead rather than looking after it.

In a major that is twice as hard!!!!

He's not a bottler but his short game just isn't quite good enough to get it done.

Over the week he needed to hole a few more putts. He's a classy player but like Monty won't quite do it I don't think.

14 takes texas wedge from 20 ft short of green and gets up and down,note.. takes putter cos he doesn't back his wedge game but gets lucky this time,15 fails to get up and down from a very easy position in back bunker...should have been a routine up and down and possibly given the hole a fright,16 again fails to get his pitch from greenside anywhere near the hole and misses putt...had to be capable of getting it to 5 feet from there surely,17 unlucky not to hole eagle putt but makes birdie 4 then 3 jabs the last from 30 feet.......in my book a)his short game was found wanting again and b)he bottled it.....if you are going to lay up at the last take a club that is going to make it a lay up!!

Do you mean the tee shot?....everyone played well right....and where did Lee go....left :D

i bet he would smack your a$$e

You know...it's as if poor Lee is on "I'll accept my fate" pills. He never seems up for it and plays a bit like me on a wet Sunday....."I'll knock it round steady, chase nothing, take no risks and then make very few good putts"

I'd like to see some stats...tee to green he was good for 65 holes and should have been 1 or 2 shots a round lower....then he'd have cruised it.

I have to agree. I was doubtful of his ability to stay the course. I then thought I was going to have to eat my words, and nothing would have given me greater pleasure. I don't think the errors on the 18th were so crucial as some wayward shots further back. He recovered from them to make pars, but if he hadn't made them in the first place he might have had a few more birdies in the bag and would have been under less pressure at the end.
Yes, luck comes into it, and I hope he makes a major, but he'll have young blood chasing from now on.

IMO Westwood got the shakes on the 16th as he had played that hole crap all week. In the water first day chasing the pin and then yesterday bottled it and pulled it long left. Same thing today he just couldnt bring himself to go for the green and turned it over and then got scared of the chip back in case his hands got jumpy and it went through into the water. Even that bunker shot at the back of 15 his hands were awful , shame cos hes one of my favourite players but his short game was real jumpy when the pressure was on..
