I've been thinking for a couple of weeks now about getting a trolley, but playing tonight in the rain for the first time since I started again has clinched it for me because it's such a pain in the backside trying to clean clubs / dry hands / mark scores etc whilst you're also trying to hold an umbrella. The thought of it being in a holder on a trolley has tipped me over the edge and I'm pretty sure I'm going to buy one now.

The question is, how much use is the feature that lets you press a button and have the trolley carry on for 10/20/30 yards?

Is it something that's well worth having or just a gimmick?

It might be worth it for comedy value alone when you get it slightly wrong!! :)

I can't imagine wanting to send my bag to the next tee, but maybe to the back of the green if I'm at the front or similar situations to that.

Comments from people with experience of both would be very helpful.

I have the basic Powakaddy and find it fine. I don't need any facility to let it run on to the next tee etc.
I did play with a guy a few times whose electric trolly was controlled by remote. I was extremely off-puting when standing over a shot and his trolly suddenly took off as if by itself. He thought it funny though.

I saw the remote-controlled ones and thought it would be really cool. Not prepared to shell out that kind of money though, or go with a cheapy that's likely to break.

Every time I have played with someone with a remote controlled trolley, they have turned out to be a knob. Avoid.

I have one with the 10/20/30 metre facility. I do find this useful, although often use it to hit the nearest tree/bunker. At my course you often pass the next tee on the way to the green, so you can send it off on it's way as you pass, and can then go directly to the tee when you have putted out, rather than go back to your trolley. I use this about 5 times in a round.

If I didn't have it, I would miss it, but it isn't totally necessary.

I also use it is I am looking for someone elses ball in the rough. I can send it on ahead to my ball, so that when we find the one we are looking for 40 yards away from where I would have left it, I don't have to walk back. Lazy, but does save time.

I went for the GoKart for the price, reliability, service and forum recommendation. I've not had it on the course yet that pleasure is tomorrow but my just looking at it that the GoKart can do the job I bought it for.

I did look at Powakaddy but even for the basic you are taking more than £50 on the GoKart. So for me it was as they say a no brainer.

A mate has one with this feature but doesn't use it now. Not since the day when he set it to go 10 metres, the trolley ramped up to full speed, did a wheelie, shot all the clubs out the back and took off toward the lake . . . to be saved only by a frantic chase and full-on rugby tackle.

I had a Hillbilly with this feature and I only used the 10 yard setting. I used the 20 yard once and by my reckoning it went about 45!!
If you do get one with it, have a practice on a clear area at least 100 yards square!!!!!!!

I have a go-kart and to be honest I just put it on one speed and thats it. It goes just fast enough that I can let it trundle a couple of paces in front of me if I want it to without it running off down the fairway.

For my money they really are the best value for money trolley on the market. If you decide to get one please PM me first as I may have something that will help you.

Chap on our Captains trip last week proudly showing off his £600 brand new trolley pressed the 30 yard button to demonstrate and sent it into a pond 26 yards away. Totally submerged except for one wheel which continued to turn for another few seconds !

Priceless.

Ive got the Powakaddy with the 5/10/15yd feature, and to be honest, like Murph, I use it quite often.
Take my ptter out, set it off to the next tee, so I dont have to take it to the green etc, i find it useful.

Sure, you occasionally get those moments at first when it may hit a tree or something, but its rare for me now.

A PK with a brolley holder is a great help, I wouldnt go back I can tell you.

I have a powakaddy and wouldn't be with out it. I utilise the umbrella holder frequently and also the setting to send it off to the next tee.

I have heard good things about the Go-Kart and it's a cheaper option.

10 and 20 yards, yes. 30 yards no, it always ends in tears. Of laughter for your mates, and sorrow for you. The chances of keeping it straight for 30 yards is remote. It always ends up in a bunker/pond/trees or upside down.

When I have spoken to GoKart in the past there ethos is to keep their trolley simple and affordable so have deliberately ignored gimmicks like remote control, digital readouts, distance measuring etc.

And long may it continue. Its a straightforward affordable piece of kit that doesn't need a remote. It is simple enough to use hands free in front of you when walking after your ball and why are people so lazy that they can't wait an move it 20 yards themselves when everyone has putted out. It seems like a gizmo to make more guillable people part with their hard earned

And this from a man that's had a leccy trolley for 5 minutes.

If you had road tested several trolleys before, making your gocart choice, I might take your comments a bit more seriously.

For your information I'm not lazy or gullible.
