No sound in the office to dont know exactly what he said but if its basically "Learn to play golf and not chase the perfect swing" its awesome advice... wish I could follow it!

I presume you agree Phil?

Agree with what he says fully - has it spot on in my eyes - too many chase that perfect swing where as people should be just out playing the game which is what he is saying

I agree to a certain extent, although i imagine a fair amount of people would find it disheartening to go out on the course and just have a go, play terribly and lose heart and pack in

He's probably forgot about the 1000s of balls he's hit and countless hours he has spent on the range

Nah, he never did, he just racked up, teed it and whacked it, and got lucky in winning the Irish open as an amateur!!!

So what do we think of Shane Lowry comments ? Learn to play golf and not chase the perfect swing ?

I see what you did there....

There is a big difference between not practising at all and chasing the perfect swing. Lowry probably hits more balls a week than any of us do in a year (Homer apart!)

I also love how the internet rules only allow absolute extremes to apply :)

I honestly didn't even think about anything to do with practising - i just thought it was a very good comment from him and outlook that could be helpful. Play with what you have - practise or out on the course

First interview I got from Google was him advocating improving your ball striking on the range then taking it to the course to learn how to score.

"During that break from tour life, I spent a lot of time down on the putting green on my own. Putt after putt after putt. I’m happy with what’s come out of it and I’m going to stick with it going forward and see how it goes." Wonder who said this too?

All those millions of golfers who play 50+ rounds a year and never break through a 10 handicap.

What is holding them back?

The 3 that he mentioned all have achieved way more than Shane and who knows in the future wether he will change his mind, only time will tell.

However many many golfers have found better swings on the range and have transferred it to victories on the course for example Nick Faldo.

Everyones different.

Of course this all stems from the thread regarding practice on the range or play on the course,i suppose Phil is just trying to cement his view from that one.

Well I see that it turned into a point scoring exercise from the usual suspects

How about just concentrating on what Lowry said and if what he is saying is something of worth to us mere Amatuers

Re chasing the perfect swing (I haven't heard the interview btw but gather that's what he's saying) then absolutely agree.

The lowest handicapper at our club certainly doesn't have the best swing, but he hits an awful lot of balls so he makes the same swing everytime.

But he is wrong most pro's use the range to work on things not on the golf course.

There is not one player I believe in the top 10 that just turns up and plays without going to the range then hits it,finds it and hits it again.

The good thing about point scoring is you make it so easy and because your a relatively bright person its so obvious its related to the other thread.

Stop bleating and read the replies, even the ones that disagree with you.

"Play with what you have" may be a lovely sound bite but he spent hour after hour changing "what he had". That was no small change either

I think that's exactly what he is saying - he mentions the other three guys have great swings pretty much near to perfect but then says that others have also gone to win things with nowhere near perfect swings but get the score on the board - Furyk prob a perfect example as it Speith , neither picture perfect
