Hi Guys,
Today was my clubs 1st round of the club championships. I played really well and shot level par 70. I am currently leading by 1 and in the last group. My question is as i am quite inexperienced, do i play attacking or do i try to defend my lead?
Thanks

Play with freedom (a la Rotella). Take each hole and each shot as it comes and don't worry about what anyone else is doing. Apart from your group you won't know what is winning anyway so just focus on your little white ball and pay the best you can on the day with it.

Don't change, do whatever you were doing today, that worked! Unless you were somewhow very lucky, draining long putts for example, then there's no reason you can't do the same again.
Forget about the others, concentrate on your own game.

You're 15 - this is great experience.

Go out tomorrow and give 100%. No one can ask anymore of you, including yourself, than that.

If you win - excellent. If you don't, you'll be able to call on that experience next year.

Remember during your next round - it's not life and death. You'll still wake up the next morning and everything will still be the same.

Play well my boy and may your balls be good to you......

Feary i can't offer you any advice on how to play your game tomorrow pal but just give it your best shot.

You don't wanna walking off tomorrow knowing you should've done better.

Good luck pal. ;)

I too am in the last group of our champs tomorrow and I will be going for it. I played a little defensively today and wont be making the same negative decisions 2 days in a row.

Just be positive with your choices and commit to every shot , try to ignore the other players and dont 2nd guess what others might be shooting. You can only control your own game so just concentrate on that

I can see a cut or two with this young man. Last year I was in the last group and I blew it big time....just trying too hard. Enjoy.

Try to forget about golf. Think about your summer hols, or something.

Can you get a mate to caddy for you at this late stage?

If so, tell him to talk to you about stuff between shots and keep you in the 'now'.

If you are just wandering around, and the golf is something that is happening between chatting, then you won't start thinking too far ahead of yourself.

Don't have a set plan, just hit the ball, walk up to it, and then hit it again. Decide whether you are going to attack/defend once you are standing over the ball - not before.

GL

( and to Jammie too :D )

Good luck fella, I like the one shot at a time approach, dont think any further ahead than that, and remember to have fun, thats why we play, isnt it!!

Guys, I came 2nd. I shot 73 (+3) to finish on +3. The winner was on +1. He was one shot ahead of me on the last which is a par 3. The pin was in a tricky place and a bit of a sucker pin, but obviously i had to try and make the birdie. I stuck it to 15ft but could only manage a 2 putt. However it did not matter because he rolled his in for a 2 anyway. To conclude thanks for the advice, considering the pressure of the situation i probably couldn't have played better, but i did have a quad bogey at the stroke index 3 tenth. I was 1 under for 17 holes, shame about the other one. One the positive side i won the john ball trophy for best nett across the two days. On top of this i won £160 and am now off 5.8. It was a weekend of what could have beens, but i am happy with my performance. :D

Great stuff feary. You must have handled the pressure really well, especially coming back from the quad in the middle of the round.

You'll have many more chances to be club champ, and this weekend will definitely help you in the future.

And so you should be. :)

Great result for you. You've been there, worn the tee shirt, and this year's experience will stand you in good stead for next year.
