I'm going to Munich later this year for a trade show. I usually stay in a hotel near the main train station, nice hotel, not a hardship. To get there I walk past a lovely looking hotel called Le Meridien. I've always fancied it but the price difference has been too large to justify. This year I am going for longer, 3 nights, and the difference is only £100 overall. I'm tempted to go for that extra bit of luxury. Question is, is it actually lovely or do they just have a fancy foyer. Has anyone stayed there? Any views?

Quite a specific question, I appreciate that but I know we have some regular travellers to Germany on here so it is worth a punt.

had a coffee in there, its nice! If its only 33 quid a night more, then do it! Walking distance to Marienplatz, so happy days! If you go out for drinks and food, look for a place called Little London. Its not cheap and it looks awful from outside, however, possibly the best Gin and Tonics and steaks in Germany!

I've stayed there and the one in Nice, they do ooze luxury and I found the service is excellent, they'll pamper you if you want or leave you alone, they just seem to know how to weigh you up quickly. Is it worth the extra, only if you stay long enough to enjoy all the surroundings, if it's a park your head and out all day & night then it's too extravagant.

The food choice and quality at all times of the day is amazing.

I can't remember the name but there's a large Bavarian hotel very near the square that was excellent also, very plush and cost much less, it's got a large basement beer house next door and the next hotel down is where the England team always stayed.

I love Munich 👍

Rooter I knew you would be my man for Germany. I know I can trawl through Trip Advisor but you have to decipher the type of person who is posting often and so I prefer a real persons views.

I have my eating places sorted in Munich. A couple of dingy looking places, 40 watt bulbs only, but they do great "homely Bavarian" food and the beer is spot on, is it anything but over there? After a day at a show you need somewhere nice to come back to and I think I will go for it. The areas not the greatest, you wouldn't stay there for a holiday, but it is perfect for the train station and the links to the exhibition halls.

Fish - Staying near the main square is exactly where I'd be for a holiday but for work the station wins. Incidentally, have you ever come out of the same exit at the Hauptbanhof in Munich? I swear it's like Hogwarts, permanently changing doors and exits. Each day I come out on a different street or location. For someone with little sense of direction it is always a challenge!

If the weather is good the open air food stalls around the Kufusterdam (spelling) is good apart from it's where the truck attack was and in the basement of the Europa Centre is a great place if you want to overdose on different wurst and pork with a great pub with live music.

Rooter, I have been staying at the Maritim in Munich for 10yrs+ plus now. Turn left after "Sexy Land", about 100m from the station. Very nice hotel and I would have no problem staying there again or in others around the world. I just fancy a bit of a change and a little taste of, perceived, extra luxury.

What is it that takes you all over Germany so often?

Thanks! Is it even possible to OD on Wurst??

Always good to tie a thread up. I booked Le Meridien this morning. The price had even dropped from Friday so I really can justify it now. The difference in hotel prices had got down to £25 a night and in the grand scheme of the whole visit that was nothing. So, Porkfest in November is booked . Thanks for the little nudge I needed.
