and I have been given 18.

I was expecting around 20-22. I was shocked at 18.

got my first handicap comp on saturday. Luckie for me I am playing good just now, that is after I discovered Pro V1 balls.

i got given 11!!! after review they gave me 15 , there is no way im an 11 handicap , cant even play to 15 at the moment due work commitments , the handicap system is very cruel in these circumstances come down like a rocket go up like a snail

Great job, hope the first comp goes well!

Because I've only scored more than 36 points once, when I played with my friends off 28!! And yet to post a gross score of less than 95....

I'm not bothered about winning competitions, but I wouldn't mind being vaguely in with a chance.

Well done on getting 18, good start.
I liked being off 18, shot a hole for stableford, easy to remember ;)

Hopefully I won't see 18 again for a long time (ever), though I've had 2 0.1s in 3 medals off 17, I know I'm a better player than that.

Can I ask what cards have you put in to get these handicaps. Hubby so far has a few to choose from. Should he put in his 3 highest scoring ones. There's not a huge difference between them but I think he'd be daft putting in one from the best round he had.

Not a problem for me as I'm just going to be given 36 as I've a long way to go on my golf journey.

Well done those who have just got their first handicaps, enjoy playing in competitions.

Chellie, I didn't think you could choose which cards to submit, surely they should be put in after each round.

Handicap will be calculated from the lowest card so he should give that in. I don't understand the desire to attain a handicap higher than what you know you are capable of. Lower scoring rounds and a lower handicap are things to be proud of.

But when you submitted your cards, you must have submitted one with a net score of only 20, which shows you have the potential to go round in that score. It's not about what you usually go around in.

Oh I'm happy that my one had a net score of 20, after my blow ups were translated into gross double bogeys.

My issue is now, that I will still get at least 4/5 blow up holes a round. So if I play in a medal, when they work out my handicap adjustments, those will be rounded down to net double bogeys. Seeing as I gain a shot a hole on most holes, I'm now 4/5 shots above my handicap. That's above buffer, and therefore a +0.1 back. And this will keep happening for a while, until I stop blowing up, at which point then I will be playing to a 20 handicap, hopefully. Can you see how this would be depressing for a new member of a club, to keep getting 0.1's back?

I understand what you mean that it's the "potential" and not what I "usually" go around in, but I have never submitted a gross score of +20. +24 is the closest I have come, ever.

this simply should happen - you should be submitting the cards each and every time you go out to play a card for handicap.

at this point you should submit all these cards

Congrats!

I just got mine at 20, I was hoping for 23! Hope your competition goes well!

You were never getting 23 with your scores 23 over including 8 & 9!
