How many clubs do you have from your last iron-driver? Interested to see what lofts folk are using in your bag.

I am looking at adding some clubs from my last iron, 5iron@24', to my driver.

Currently have a 19' Taylormade Burner, R7 3w and R15 driver.

I have lots of options for example adding a 4iron@22' then a maybe a rescue @19' and a 3w@15' (not sure I want to add a 22' iron when a hybrid/rescue could be used???)

or just a rescue @20 then a 3w@15'.

I suppose I am also wondering if you think that 5iron, rescue, 3w, driver will give enough spread of lofts or if I should use two rescues @21' and 18' then a 3w?

I had a good look online last night and managed to resist the temptation to click BUY! Not sure I will have the same will power today!:D

I am rubbish so my irons finish at 6!

Then I have 24.5 hybrid, 21 hybrid, 18 5 wood, 15 3 wood.

I find that gives me good yardage gaps of 10 yards or so, used to have a 3 hybrid rather than a 5 wood but it went the same distance as the 4 hybrid so I swapped it out

I go 22 degree 4 iron, 19 degree hybrid, 15 degree 3 wood, then 10.5 degree driver. But unless I absolutely middle my 3 wood I don't gain a great deal over my hybrid so usually play that

My last iron is a 4 iron at 24º.

I then have a 19° Titleist 913H and a 15° Callaway Optiforce 3 wood before getting to my 9° Callaway Big Bertha V-Series Driver.

Due to the inevitable natural ageing process (me - not the clubs) my longest iron is now a 30* 6-iron. From there I have hybrids of 28, 24, 21, 18, 15.

Currently I have a 4 iron @24* and then either a 2 Iron or Hybrid @18* and a 3 Wood at 14* finishing with driver @9*.

I would ignore lofts if possible and focus on how you hit the clubs and what gaps you have - I know some guys that nail a 3 iron just as well as a 5 wood or hybrid. There are others that run hybrids down to 27* but actually could just play Driver, 3Wood and something like a 23* hybrid as the distance gaps between the 20* hybrid and 23* are negligible and the 27* actually only goes as far as his next lofted iron!

I also know a fella who took the 7 and 9 irons out of the bag as he never used them and replaced them with a 1 iron and 2 iron because that gave him the best spread through the bag….

My irons finish at a 4/23* I've then got an 18* hybrid (although I'm looking to replace this with an adjustable hybrid) and then it's my 'X2 hot 15*/3 wood' and my 'X2 hot' driver (when we've not fallen out with each other) although I'm possibly gonna replace my 4i with a suitably lofted hybrid but we'll see how things go this season !...

There seems to be a gap between the 24* 5i and the 19* hybrid?/5wood?...

Wether that actually affects you really depends on your game and the courses you play. If you don't find yourself in a distance that's too long for the 5i bur not long enough for the 19* very often, you could well get along without an additional club.

That being said, we all know that necessity isn't the only relevant factor when it comes to buying clubs... ;)

There seems to be a gap for another club, so why not fill it?

I guess you could go with a 22* hybrid. It's only a 2* gap to your 5i, but since the hybrid will probably be a bit longer than an iron of the same loft you should be ok. The 3* gap to the 19* also seems to be right.

But - it would probably be better not to buy only but to go somewhere and try various options. Take your 5i and the 19*, then find a club that splits the gap nicely...

My last iron is a 4, and I think I need a 3. My next club down is a 22 deg 4 wood and there is a good 20 yards gap between the two.

Anybody selling a AP2 712 3 iron by any chance :)

I did some gapping with my clubs a while back, I was carrying some clubs which hit the same distance, my 3 wood and 5 wood were identical, my 4&5 irons were identical.
Im having a wee change to go 5 iron, 4 hybrid, 5 wood, driver

Mine are...

23° Iron
19° Hybrid
15° Fairway

I'd like to replace the hybrid with 2 other clubs to spread the gaps out a bit more evenly, but I'm not willing to sacrifice one of my many many wedges :)

Personally I'd say 15/19/23 was about right, anything more or less than the 19* would be negligible surely ?...

Just checked the specs of AP2 and a 4 iron is 24 deg also, same as my aero burner 4 wood. So does that mean I should look at a 5 wood with a higher loft to get that 200-210 yardage or is the 3 iron better?

Not to sound off, I dont know you from Adam, would you ever say you were proficient with a 3i?
Im thinking of junking my 5w or a wedge to get a 2i for shorter par 4s. loft wise my bag hasnt changed in 10 years really, driver,3w,5w, 3i-pw 53,56,putter.

Don't get too tied up with lofts. My 4 hybrid goes about 10-15 yards further than my similarly lofted 4 iron as it's lighter and had a longer shaft.

There's more to it than just lofts IMO.
