Hi Guy's and let me wish you all a Merry Christmas and a happy golfing new year.

I'm playing today for the last time of 2008 dont know if I'll do 18 or 9 but the clubs will be cleaned and put away untill Febuary. I'm looking forward to the game today as I haven't played in 5 weeks, so it will be nice to get back out there. I find the rest in the winter dosen't do me any harm as I come back hungry to get at it. Do any of you guy's take a long break. And do you feel it works or do'es you harm? I have won 7 trophies over the last 3 years so it must work for me. Handicap to date is 2.5, so a bit of practice over the winter at the range and I should be fine.
I'm sure you'r all like me and cant wait until the new season and the summer months again. So have a good one whatever you'r doing.
Cheers

Same to you CC07.
Sat here riddled with the cold, weather has gone very mild so I could play if I was feeling better but I'd rather get over the worst of this bug before Xmas so staying in.
I tend to put the clubs away November to March then will start practicing before season starts in April.
Might do some carpet putting and swing a speed stick a little over the winter, that's about it.
My back feels good now so hoping I can recover the power and length I lost after my slipped disc in April.
Looking forward to the new season, determined to improve a little, have been going slowly backwards with scoring since 2006.

I dont put clubs away, I couldn't go a couple of weeks without a game, let alone a couple of months.

Merry Christmas and all the best for new year, look forward to hearing how you get on next year.

Welcome back and hope you and your loved ones have a great Christmas and a decent new year. Personally I prefer to keep playing unless in the middle of a rut of poor form but as I'm hitting okay at present and have some golf at other courses lined up over the break I'll keep on swinging

Wind, rain, snow or ice im out there. Not worrying to much how its going just enjoying it with my mates. Hopefully playing in all this wind and rain would have helped my game a little and put me in good stead for next season.

Joining my first club (the one I currently play at) in April, so ill have my official handicap and start playing in the comps.

Hope you all have a great christmas and a happy new year!

I am playing a lot over christmas. I got more golf in this last week than in the 2 months previous put together. I'm also playing tomorrow, wednesday and hopefully next sunday- it comes with having enough time for a change. I am highly looking forward to the new season though, I am a banker to win an early medal off of my current handicap / current form. ;)

Reading your post about having a long break from golf in the winter brings me out in a cold sweat. Going a whole week without a game is almost unbearable. I've been playing for 2 years so the enthusiasm is still there. The course has to be closed for me to miss a game.

Ive played more than 30 yrs on and off and rarely lost the enthusiasm, but I have experienced long breaks and short breaks and found that a short break can improve the game of some, so I suppose it depends on the person, maybe some people can take a long break and come back refreshed with little effect on their game, personally, when I have had a long break it takes time to get my game on track again and a long golf break for me is 4 wks or more and the longer away, the longer I take to get back into it.

Since I started playing golf my urge to play golf seems to start New Years morning & is probably stronger than it is through November & December. In-fact over these last few years I really get stuck into golf through January & February in preperation for March, which to me is the start of the Summer buildup & March to me is the time when inland courses start to to really recover from the winter & spring into life again..

Not played this month, apart from a lesson, but saw no reason to put away the clubs.

I played on Thursday and was nailing the ball with my new driver...arranged another game for yesterday, went out with high hopes but played like a bloody knob.
Where did that duck hook come from? I've never played with a duck hook!! Couldn't hit the ball for toffee...either woods or irons.
Have another game lined up for next Sunday. Not even going to look at the clubs until then.
Happy Christmas!

Hi CC
we always battle on through the winter and it can be good - have had some lovely sunny days here and course not too bad considering - best of all, very few people playing!
But yesterday we had grey skies, 2 to 3 club wind and intermittent drizzle. Fun? Not really. I was pleased to get home. And I doubt it did my golf any good at all. You may well have the right idea!

All the best for 09.

I'd get the shakes if I went that long! Looking at your handicap it obviously doesn't hurt your game, but I couldn't do it to myself.

I've played in sideways snow before I love being out there so much!
