Las Vegas.

Shocking and the sound of the gunfire is frightening. The sad thing is it will go on forever and absolutely anyone could be effected.Sad day as usual. My thoughts are with anyone who has been hurt or killed today.

Terrible news and thoughts to all those affected. Sadly nothing surprises these days.
USA so needs to look at gun control......but they wont.

We are now at the stage in society where you can hear/see on social media and news web sites the sound of at least 50 innocent people being slaughtered in real time. I sometimes weep for the world we are leaving the future generations.

Totally agree. Society is becoming desensitized and just accepts violence as part of living, or dying...

Just terrible and still shocking. Why the USA can't see that restricting access to these sorts of weapons is essential I will never understand.

It's a facile comment but I can't help thinking about it.... Mrs FD is off to Vegas next week, so glad it wasn't this week. :(

If they did not after Sandy Hook when Obama was president then there is absolutely no chance now.

It will just follow the same depressingly familiar narrative with the words 'lone wolf' and mental illness being banded around by the right wing news outlets as a convenient excuse and there will be lots of arguments when Trump more than likely refuses to mention anything about terrorism in his condemnation of the slaughter of innocent people just enjoying a concert. And the NRA will suggest none of this would have happened if hotel staff were all armed or something nonsense like that.

How the hell did he get what looks to be a machine gun into a 32nd floor hotel room? Not to mention the thousand or so rounds of ammunition and other assorted weapons!!!

What was the motive of the guy - 64 years old for God's sake.

Thoughts with the all the victims of such a horrific incident.

Why someone needs that sort of weapon I’ll never know.

The message that their “right to bear arms” needs addressing and quickly will never get passed some people desire for more money.

Maybe the current administration such look at their own internal issues than picking fights elsewhere - more Americans get killed by their own people than any other nation and mainly because of their stupid gun laws making it so easy for blood thirsty loons to get hold of weapons

Jeez, I was there last weekend as well, staying at the Luxor - a bit too close for my liking

Infortunately Patster, I have been to Vegas, Nice, Paris, Manchester, Barcelona, London, Brussels. All have a terrible connection. Won't stop me going to Bali, Indonesia, carribbean, Malaysia etc etc over the next six months though.

FDs comments send a flippin shiver down me spine that he did nowt illegal til he opened fire. Ironically am sure Vegas has made a few quid over the years having gun conventions there.

To be honest I stopped listening to the report as soon as I heard the words Shooting and Vegas...
I was almost thinking to myself "well, it's about time there was another mass shooting as they haven't had one for a few weeks".
I pity the rank and file Americans and tourists who unwittingly get involved in these incidents but I have nothing but contempt for a Country that really doesn't seem to care how many of its citizens and visitors get killed in this way..
They haven't really graduated beyond Billy the Kid or the OK Corral.

Taken from the BBC website:

The state of Nevada has some of the most permissive gun laws in the US. It is legal to carry an assault rifle and there is no magazine capacity limit.

There are no purchase permits and blue cards (gun registration) are no longer required.

There is no waiting period mandated for firearm purchases and private gun sales are OK.

Essentially anything goes in Nevada. As FD has suggested, the guy had enough firepower to start a small war however did absolutely nothing illegal until he started shooting at people.

Pretty sad state of affairs with regulations that lax.

Whilst I am sure it by no means unique, one of the tourist attractions Vegas offers is being able to go to some firing range with little to no prior experience and basically fire whatever you want, including machine guns. https://www.battlefieldvegas.com/pages/a-la-carte-landing-page

Did see one or two gun ranges on offer driving round Vegas last week Hacker - bit scary that they can carry an assault rifle around legally as well.
As Jim Jeffries says, if the argument is that they are for protection, why are they called assault rifles?
